I'm going to teach web dev at a coding school in a few months. In the teaching plan, students have to learn git. But we are told explicitly to only teach using github desktop and not the command line because it puts students off.

I'm not sure how to feel about this

    You will only teach GitHub Desktop, BUT also will explain to them how it works at a "git" level, that way, you respect the rules AND teach them how it works, that its no black magic or something

    I taught game coding (scratch and tried Lua with Löve2d)... to kids of 10-13 years old... it was fucking hell

    I've taught my mother how to turn on a computer. And you thought your life was hard.

    @Hevlastka
    What does she do when it's on, provided that she could learn it well?

    that's the same reason I teach the freshman Java instead of C or python. command line scares them away it seems.

    You can always cherry pick a few command line pieces to show to the really committed students and...I already ran out of puns

    riot. break shit. teach the command line anyway. be a rebel.

    @Etrunon she usually watches YouTube videos but once called me asking how to wake it up because it was telling her that the computer is going to sleep

    But...knowing command line is a good thing

    Dreamweaver they said..
    It's the future they said..

    I dunno, it's not like the gui makes for an horrible repo like dreamweaver would for html but it still doesn't sit right with me.
