Note: I wrote this rant about two times before but they always felt like me complaining like a child over 30$. However there's a lot more to it. The comments will allow me to decide if you guys would like the backstory or not :)

Go for it, we love a good rant, please feel free to punctuate it with expletives where appropriate.

peaam71318y@uziiuzair Nah you're among friends, it's happened to many of us! Best to work with people you can cut off instantly if needed. Sometimes the less they pay, the more they expect.
Go on, give us the back story. But make sure it's a good ol' rant ;-). -
Okay so the backstory comes with a little bit about me. I'm a Multimedia artist. I specialize in Videography, Photography, Animation, Motion Graphics, Web and a lot more. (Sorry about bragging haha)
I made a friend early last year. In no time at all, she became part of my group. And my group are not only my close friends but all artists, so we basically do all projects together.
My "friend" once asked me if I could help develop a website for her family business. I agreed. We signed a contract and in just a few months, I was done with the website. As part of the contract I became a little generous. Now with any client, I charge A base amount, anything the client needs adds to the base count. I slashed that base amount by half and added no over heads for my friend. (Come on she was my friend?) I also provided 6 months of free web hosting as part of the contract.

Now the web hosting expired and she paid the regular hosting cost a couple of months ago. Totaling to 30$. She messaged me two months ago asking me to help her in adding content to her Wordpress site, I agreed to guide her.
We met up and started discussing Wordpress. Later that night, she sent me the content file via Facebook. She also mentioned that the photos will come from google. I didn't make anything out of that so I ignored it. 2 weeks later she messaged asking about the website, that's the moment I realized she was expecting me to work on it instead. I explained to her that I could set up basics with guides so that she will add content.
Last week she messaged once again asking me why the website was not complete. This was the moment I told her I am too Busy with my clients and projects to help her (I said this before too). She blew up asking whether I was even allowed to quit after she paid for the fucking domain?! -
Assuming that 30$ was going to allow her web hosting to be live as well as me writing content and maintaining her website for her. Are you ducking kidding me?
Let me add that she's a fuckjng web developer student too! Any fucktard will know what a website is and how to host it! You're a third year college student you have been studying web development for fucking three years!!! You have made many websites and you can't tell the different between a domain and content writing?!
Our contract clearly stated that I will NOT add any content to her website! -
Now since I run the web hosting company, I'm not sure if when I state that "We reserve the right to remove your account at hosting for any reason without notice" really means that I am allowed to refuse further service to her company.
There have been many incidents before. But this incident has triggered it!!
Gonna call my lawyer to discuss if I remove her or not 👀 jk -
nateye7528yPretty bad experience. I must say that doing work for 'friends' will either give a barrier or make you feel bad for each other later on. I experienced somewhat similar to yours. Mine was for the sister in law of my dad. Too much expectations, more overtime, less pay, and they say I'm crazy. 🤔

I offer a mates rates discount of 20% and they do the same for me if I want any shitty diy tiling or other manly shite doing.

After losing close to $300,000 in business ventures with family and friend that I totally financed and did all the start up work and all they had to do was run day to day, I decided about 4 years ago never again. And I mean not a single minute or dollar of involvement ever again.
-
@uziiuzair nearly all my life savings. I wanted to get out of computer related work and I was tired of working for big corporations and egotistical managers that had nothing in their lives except their little jobs .
-
@nateye I consider friends to be a thin thread, keep them steady and they'll be connected, do anything and they'll break.
Never again will I fucking work for anyone close to me! It's not fucking worth helping them.
Backstory is too long. Lets just say that they fucking expect too much as we're friends. Assuming that paying 10$ for your domain every year entitles me to work on every ducking detail of your website. Not to forget I gave this person an insane discount on the entire project.
I lost a friend or someone who I assumed was a friend
