I'm a developer in germany and of course, everyone in this company has a keyboard with the QWERTZ layout, which ( you all know ) sucks especially when using it do write code.
So i asked my boss, if i can get a keyboard in QWERTY layout, because of the given reasons.
He replied nicely: Yes, I will ask the hardware management.
5 minutes later i got a mail: Here is your harware order, you will get it soon.

It's not much, but that was fast and nice :)

Have a good day everybody.

    When I get a job in the industry™© I'll have to ask them for a US keyboard so I, can finally get a long left shift button (again) :v

    @inaba thats also some sort of argument not to use a german layout :D

    I don't get why a keyboard layout matters when you never look down onto the keyboard 😉 scnr 😎

    Note: I am using a blank keyboard which suits all my need!

    @2erXre5 grrr you got me :D

    sadly i am looking far to often down on the keyboard and less on the screen :D

    I still want to try a programmers Dvorak layout... Still haven't tried it yet

    @ShotgunSurgeon looks kinda interesting, but i think it would not be my preferred layout

    My boss gave me a logitech g810 for christmas because I hate the generic rubber dome keyboards and it was slowing me down a lot.

    @2erXre5: German layout is ISO, while US is ANSI. Well, you could use the British layout on a German keyboard.

    What's wrong with QWERTZ? I never had the feeling that the keyboard was what would slow me down. There are other things that need much more time, and I can continue thinking while typing anyways.

    @inaba i have short "shift" key and some stupid key in right side that looks like this

    @Benedikt: Personally, I dread it especially when working with LaTeX. The density of \, {, }, [, ] is so high that the extra strain on my fingers from typing AltGr+n all the time becomes noticeable.

    @Pogromist: I actually miss that key when writing HTML. I probably don't do HTML often enough, though, because it still feels a little bit weird on a US keyboard.

    "Programmer Dvorak" is the best, but you definitely need a keypad.

    Apart from LaTeX, I never had any problems with QWERTZ. Even in Perl, where you tend to have a lot of {[]}, too.

    But in LaTeX having to hit AltGr+7/8/9/0 interrupts typing a lot.

    The next best thing, if you are a QWERTY user, is "Colemak Mod-DH", which can absolutely raise your WPM count.

    ISO > ANSI
    * big enter key
    * one key more
    * short shift is a non-issue

    @Pogromist I already use the US layout since it's perfect for me, and because of that I don't have to use that extra shitty button next to the small shift key

    @electrineer ISO with long left shift button is my dream layout

    I've used QWERTZ for years now.
    Is it really that slow? I feel like everything is just in the right place.

    @PrivateGER try it out, once you get into it, its fantastic

    @PrivateGER personally i just can speak for QWERTY , i've never used DVORAK.

    If you also write normal test on your device QWERTY is also okay instead od QWERTZ
  • 1
    Why... Do you look on the keys? Eyes on the screen! Just switch layout.

    Qwerty sucks when you have to write a lot of documentation in a language needing umlauts. äöüß are where? 🤔

    @Yamakuzure yeah, but these letters are easier to remember when you change the layout

    @7400 when i press that key what it types:
    \\\\\\
    shift + that key:
    |||||||

    @Pogromist: So, EN-GB keyboard layout? On the German one that key actually does < and >.

    @Tayo I still don't know if it really is better in case of the braces and such... Actually I would love a layout that is standard except for the special characters.

    Like shift for number usage and placement like 5=( 6=) 4={ 7=} 3=[ 8=]

    Don't know if it's understandable

    Shift + Ctrl?

    That switches y with z.
