“Research suggests that in an eight-hour day, the average worker is only productive for two hours and 53 minutes.” -
LombArd4946y8 hours.
I found that if you go over that because 'i just want to get this done' and don't get paid for it, you start getting your managers asking you and expecting you to do that -
breakdown376yWell, if we are honest.. what do you call working? Because when I'm at work there seems to be a contest with meetings. Let's have a meeting about another meeting. I get more actual work done not at work.

@filvia-sederici - Two hrs, it's indeed very low. We use to consider 5 hrs a day while estimating efforts for a project or an assignment.

@dasagrivamanu Estimating 5 productive hours out of the 8? Yeah, we did that as well. I personally believe that out of those 5 hours available - in front of the keyboard with no other pressing matter (like the boss wanting to talk about his new Tesla for an hour) - that you'll do about 3 hours of productive work.

5 to 6, other hours are filled with toilet breaks, getting coffee, customizing my IDE, talking, being bored, reddit and other small things.
Also depends on my mood and if the task I'm working on is fun and/or requires lots of research. -
8. Not counting being the on call server engineer once every 1,5 months.
Then I'm on call outside work hours and it really depends how busy it is.
How much of the actual hours do you spend working at a day job?
question
work job
