I've got a Thinkpad and I'm pretty satisfied with it except maybe for the Nvidia Optimus video card(can be a bit tricky with drivers, depending on the distro). Except for Manjaro pretty much every OS just worked without any fiddling.

Konsole30496yIf you are trying Linux flavours, I would recommend KDE Desktop. Looks similar to Windows but is a lot more functional and customizable.
(If new to Linux world, try KUbuntu, or else go for Manjaro KDE)
Kubuntu ships an older version of KDE which has a few minor bugs -

Those are my top favorite ones that I've tried. For personal pc, I kind of lean to razer blade 15" + linux but second option would be lenovo :) -
If you seriously want so make music fuck linux. Binding vst plugins is a pain. Take mac or Windows for music. Would reccomend windows fur personal use.
For work just linux. Yeah.

Recently, my hardy MacBook Pro 2012 gave up the ghost. So I'm in the market for getting a new laptop. Which one(s) would you guys recommend given the following use cases I have planned? Listed in order of importance:
- Getting used to Linux. Eventually I plan on replacing my desktop PC's Windows install with Linux and would like to try some flavors on the laptop.
- Software development w/ Java (Spring), Android, Rust, Go, Node
- Music making
- General web browsing, heavy YouTube use
- A little bit of story writing
