Recently, my hardy MacBook Pro 2012 gave up the ghost. So I'm in the market for getting a new laptop. Which one(s) would you guys recommend given the following use cases I have planned? Listed in order of importance:

- Getting used to Linux. Eventually I plan on replacing my desktop PC's Windows install with Linux and would like to try some flavors on the laptop.
- Software development w/ Java (Spring), Android, Rust, Go, Node
- Music making
- General web browsing, heavy YouTube use
- A little bit of story writing

I've got a Thinkpad and I'm pretty satisfied with it except maybe for the Nvidia Optimus video card(can be a bit tricky with drivers, depending on the distro). Except for Manjaro pretty much every OS just worked without any fiddling.

Why aren’t you getting a Mac again?

@grumpyoldaf Price, Touchbar, broken keyboards...I can think of many reasons, but these don't apply to everyone I guess.

If you are trying Linux flavours, I would recommend KDE Desktop. Looks similar to Windows but is a lot more functional and customizable.
(If new to Linux world, try KUbuntu, or else go for Manjaro KDE)
Kubuntu ships an older version of KDE which has a few minor bugs

    You could attempt to check:

    Razer blade 15"
    Dell xps series
    Lenovo carbon x1

Those are my top favorite ones that I've tried. For personal pc, I kind of lean to razer blade 15" + linux but second option would be lenovo :)

If you seriously want so make music fuck linux. Binding vst plugins is a pain. Take mac or Windows for music. Would reccomend windows fur personal use.

    For work just linux. Yeah.
