If you use Windows only software then what's point installing Linux?
If it's just for fun then why not duelboot?

About NVDIA: In Ubuntu its mostly flawless, additionally most laptops have an internal Intel graphics unit. Unfortunately the installers ship a broken (or outdated?) version if the open source nouveau driver, so you have to start them in safe graphics mode.

Personally, i've had next to no problems after just a simple
    # pacman -S nvidia
    Worked flawlessly for me

I've been using my Nvidia card fine, just use the official Nvidia drivers (unless you have an older card). And when it comes to Windows only software, Wine should be able to handle it.
