torpkev4825yWhat is a very long time here? A week, a month, a year?
Personally I can't imagine any upside to a company forcing you to stay an unreasonable amount of time.. just means you have a very unhappy employee that will drag morale down like crazy -
C0D4669025yCheck your contract for "termination period".
If it says two weeks, you have two weeks and then stop showing up. -
Most contracts have an "Abandonment of Employment" clause. I'd just tell him the day i'm leaving, and then say after that he can consider it abandonment of employment.
-
SomeNone7115yIf you tell your boss you want to leave, I imagine it is because you found a job elsewhere. Otherwise, what sense does it make to even discuss this? Refer to your contract for your notice period, and give notice in the way appropriate in your country of employment. Done, next!

Root797705yIn many countries, a resignation period it is not required by law; it is a courtesy you extend to your employer. If your boss is not being courteous, you shouldn't be either.
Give them two weeks, if you want to, and then stop showing up.
A year is laughable. It's your boss using you and not caring about you in the slightest. At a guess, your salary is probably under industry average.
Edit: algo necro ☹
If you haven't left yet, you should reconsider! -
Update om the situation. I said I will stay two months just to make sure everything is left properly. His reaction was not so nice but fuck it. Next day he asks me to return the company car on Monday. He tells me this on Wednesday. I don’t have a replacing vehicle. Straight up screwing me over while I try to help him out.

torpkev4825y@pacjent3444 tell him circumstances have changed due to lack of transportation and now you can only give two weeks.

ODXT12So apparently my boss knows the "new senior dev", which I will call 'B'. Backstory: Program which I worked on...
Tell boss you want to resign in a good manner.
Boss tells you it will take you a very long time to leave.
Tell boss that is way to long.
Boss persists his not so kind requests.
Check your contract and local laws.
Dilemma: Tell him he’s being unrealistic and demand a normal procedure/Do the time and cry about every missed opportunity for a career upgrade. What would you do?
