And I thought dealing with recruiters couldn't get worse..
Applied for a job, get a call back a short while later. Recruiter guy has zero details about the job, but needs some background info. Then says he needs a few more things, it'll come in an email. Calls me 5 minutes later asking why I haven't replied yet, told him im not home.
Get home, check my mail.. please send full address, social security number and a copy of both sides of my photo ID.
Nooooooooooooope. Email back, say no can do.. no replies, job listing deleted a few hours later.2 -
I'd like to follow along with some react tutorials, but pretty much all I'm finding are ones that either just have blocks of code (with little to no explanation) to copy/paste or just a link to github.
Do any of you know of any good, well explained tutorials I can follow along to that actually explain what they're doing (and actually end with a sample project, so not just theory).2 -
I got call from a recruiter today for a job I applied for on ziprecruiter. The job is listed as remote. He says no, it's Denver, I said ok, well the listing says remote, he says, ok, remote is fine. He then argued with me about salary after I said it depends on the company on where I'm happy to negotiate to, and I'd want to know about benefits etc.. here is what I currently make, etc etc. He kept on trying to make me pick an hourly number.. I said I don't know the company, so he told me the company name.. them started in again about hourly rate (no idea who the company was). Finally he moved on and said he'd email details.
5 mins later, email comes through, please give hourly salary. Then another saying he'd pass my details on and I can just ask for about remote during the interview. And then another email 2 mins later asking for education etc, all of which is in my resume. I looked the company he was recruiting for up to find that it's an IT recruitment firm, looking to fill a clients position. So a recruiter recruiting for a recruiter :|
I'll be so happy when I find a new job and don't have to deal with these idiots again.3 -
My former coworker had to mail their work equipment back to me..
6 boxes later..
Open up the first box. A mouse wrapped in about 4ft of heavy duty bubble wrap.. a keyboard box double layered in or.. and my favorite, a restore cd literally wrapped 4 times in bubble wrap. Why?
I'm scared to open the other 5 boxes8 -
I have been asked to submit a piece of code for review for an interview, something I'm proud of writing.
What kind of code snippet would you submit? (A custom sort.. a tricky bit of data manipulation etc)7 -
That horrible moment when your 'documentation is something that happens to someone else' approach (due to lack of time) catches up with you and you have to go back and generate data dictionaries and diagrams on a deadline.
Gah -
Just rebooted.. nothing running, windows claims I'm using 99% memory, but task manager shows 211MB of 16GB being the most in use4

I have an interview tomorrow, but I kinda feel like a dick about it.
A former coworker asked for a reference for a job and told me about the position.. I agreed, and a recruiter dealing with them calls to get it. While on the call I leave them a brief blurb about my skillset and we agree that I'll keep his details on file just in case (I wasn't looking to move on, but I do like to keep in touch with recruiters who don't seem to be a pita)
A month goes by and my position is suddenly ending soon, so I call him and ask if there is anything new.. no, but.. the same employer I gave a reference for would like to talk with me about that same position.
I'd never have heard about the job without my former coworker asking for a reference, but on the other hand, if they are still looking after a month, surely my former coworker wasn't really still in the running, right?
Anyway.. awkward conversation ahead should I get the job.
Also, wish me luck 😁7 -
I had to let go of the two people working under me today because somebody fucked up the budget. That sucked.12

I go on vacation from work for 3 weeks at the end of this week, the longest I'll have taken at once in at least 10 years..
Finding it REALLY hard to a) focus on work now (yay vacation brain).. b) trust my coworkers to not crash the system, burn the backups and just generally bugger everything up while I'm gone. Aaarrrggghhhh4
