I wish there was some kind of "Close as Duplicate" function for rants like there is on Stack Overflow... tends of be a lot of reposts of the same memes.

    App devs jump on it!

We've been trying to come up with some solutions to this as it recently became more of an annoyance with the huge influx of new users and content.

A close as duplicate isn't a bad idea though. We were also thinking of something that maybe alerts you before you post if our algo is able to detect the duplicate.

@dfox Text based rants can be detected by the algo. But memes are difficult. Need user ability to flag as duplicate.

    You'll definitely need more moderators.

@sterex I'd expect there are some image recognition algorithms they could plug into to determine the likelihood of a match.

I think we'd probably rather not create a manual process to weed out duplicates/have to train the users up front. There's a lot of new content that's not duplicated so I'd much rather detect ones that are duplicates automatically and just tell the user posting it.

Images can detected automatically too but there's some nuances we have to figure out.

@dfox At any rate, a "huge influx of new users and content" is a good problem to have! Glad to see things are starting to take off!

@mclark1129 thanks, we appreciate that :) It's exploded really quickly and it's been hard to keep up with everything with our extremely limited resources so it's been pretty stressful. But I don't want to complain, it is a good problem to have I think!

I just want to make sure everyone know we do hear that there are issues and are really working hard to iron everything out while also working on some exciting new stuff for the app.

Oh, and we also have 125 sticker requests to get mailed out lol.

@dfox I'm sure you could get some of us to volunteer moderate and remove the dupe memes for you. I'm sure some that are on daily like me, localhost, jireh, etc could easily cut down on them a lot.
