I'm not an expert on this subject, but this is a bit of broken post right? correct me if I'm wrong:
there are already free drivers for both amd* and nvidia. the problem is that they are not as performant as the closed sourced counterparts.
afaik, opengl on linux doesn't need fixing, the drivers do (but you wouldn't call that specifically fixing)
a couple of months ago nvidia started open sourcing their documentation. these are baby steps, but if they continue doing that, the nvidia reality on linux (which is the worst of the two) could improve.
*@kescherRant, I've just read that they use proprietary microcode, is that what you mean? -
Open source device drivers for proprietary hardware will sadly always be shit if the company doesn't do them themselves
