    @theKarlisK thanks. Our vBulletin got hacked the other day and we’re looking to replace it. I’ll look into the other suggestions.

    FWIW, discourse is open source - it's just their own hosting that's paid (and if it's an open source project, they'll often give you that for free too.)

    @stackodev what was the hack? How did they enter? That should be the first step. Most probably it is not because of the software but the protection of the server.

    We think it was an unpatched function that called eval() and it got SQL injected. But they so thoroughly made a mess of the directory and deleted the DB that we can’t determine for sure.

    If it's stable and secure, why do yoy need updates then?
