Year 1.5 into my first job and three bosses and several teammates have already left the company. Not sure why. Is this how shit works in general?

    It's normal, but the general size and pattern is what makes it worrying (or not.)

    If you've had a total team size of around 3, and everyone but you in that team has left multiple times, plus your boss has left multiple times, they're probably seeing something bad that you're not (bad working conditions, pay, long term prospects, etc.)

    On the other extreme, if it's a team of 50 and several people leave in the span of a year or two, that's probably the expected level of employee churn, so the opposite applies.

    @AlmondSauce this. When I worked for a large corporation, this happened pretty often, between retirement, reassignment, and employee attrition. When I was interviewing for a small team and the tech hiring manager had gotten that job in around 3 months after being hired as a junior Har rep, that was a red flag.

    If two or more leave in short time, there is most likely a reason.

    One of them may be often switching of bosses/ceo‘s.

    I left from a company with three years technical dept. Two CEO‘s, a young one that basically psychologically manipulated everyone ‚to stay positive‘ and ‚everything will go fine‘ and the other, almost too old one that basically fucked up internal processes by pressuring the department leaders, meaning PM and alike. That all drizzled down to us.

    EDIT: Was not part of the build up, I was one of them to teach and make em‘ better „next time“, but that time never came.

    I'm in a team of around 15 that fluctuates with people coming and going. The balance had definitely changed from being more data engineers to being more solutions architects - so top heavy.

    It really depends on what their reason is for leaving. Most of our reasons was relocation due to partners, wanting to explore new fields or a role changing to what the person felt was not what they wanted they future to be.
