That's actually the general opinion. Designers love it because they're running out of ideas not owned by Disney.

@SortOfTested i just hope it stays in 2020 and when/if we get through it, we can all forget this year as a whole...

I'm personally in love with skeuomorphism and dynamically appearing widget groups. Think devices in a rack. Nobody likes my GUIs for some reason.
-
Interfaces should reflect the unique attributes of the medium. Making software GUIs look like physical objects is lazy design, re-implementing some familiar analog interaction in a medium that can't fully reflect it instead of creating an interface that takes advantage of a digital display and can only exist thus.
Even for the humble button, it's much easier to create an element that's unambiguously activated or not using just a filled rectangle than some weirdly shadowed bubble. -
Well shadows can be expensive. I kind of like the style. It certainly looks better than that metro shit Windows 8 introduced. It is step backward from the 3D desktop that I always that thought would be the next great thing in computers. I know people have tried to do 3D in some cases, but I am not sure the key interface has been found. Are we just unsophisticated users/species and couldn't handle a real 3rd or 4th dimensional interface?

odite46895yUnpopular opinion: {inserts the popular trend of shitting on neumorphism}
I agree but you've had to have known this isn't an unpopular opinion. -
C0D4681385y@Fast-Nop and just how sophisticated is your dick?
I have to set a standard for this!
On another note, shadows piss me off most of the time. -
I tried neumorphism, mixed feelings tbh some stuff looked really good most downright horrible. It's one of those things that are really hard to get right.
-
And neumorphism doesn't follow badic software principles like
KISS (keep it simple Suresh) or
GDSITYTKIS (God dammit Suresh, I told you to keep it simple).
