F13-F24 keys, nice. Most people probably don't even know that they exist.

You won't tell us what keyboard it is, will you?
  • 3
@sbiewald Looks like something like an IBM 3151.

@Linux How's desk/mouse space with that battleship? I'm currently on the fence of jumping from 75% to a 1800-like layout (because of the numpad) and my biggest concern is the lost space on the right.
  • 1
@kamen why require any space for the mouse when you can just have all the keys?

But if you need a numpad you could get an external one or a keyboard with the numpad on the left.

I guess you can pay a lot of respects with that many F‘s

    Damn!! 😍😍😍

What on earth do you need F20 for?

    Vim shortcut?

@deadlyRants Sure, I'm pretty aware of that, but I want the numpad, if it's an external one, to be matched to the keyboard, and the keyboard I'm currently considering is either 75% or 95% (among a few other variants) but no external numpad is offered.

Some extra keys don't replace an actual mouse. A built-in trackpoint - maybe, to certain extent at least (i.e. TEX keyboards if you've seen them), but it'd still feel like a workaround - I do play games and I need a full-featured mouse; and even for browsing and general work, it'd be hard for me to let go of Logitech's hyper-fast scroll.

As for this keyboard in particular, IIRC it's a prototype from a few years back and now there's an IC on geekhack for an actual production run of it. If I had $600-700 to burn (because I figure it'd cost about that much if you go with good switches and keycaps), I'd go for it, but even then it'd feel more of a collector's piece than something practical I'd use day to day.

@Nanos This one seems interesting, although IIRC you can't disconnect the numpad, you can just dock it to the left or right of the main keyboard (ideally I'd go keyboard -> mouse -> numpad). I wouldn't buy anything from Asus in the near future though, they kind of lost my trust - I've had issues with something they allegedly specialise in (motherboards), I imagine what issues I'd run into with something they do on the side. I posted a rant about that a while ago if you're interested.

Meanwhile I'm drooling over keyboards which allow me to give no F's at all.

I like a fullsized standard ANSI keyboard, but a 60% would be really neat for the tiny standing desk I have in my mancave.

If only Ducky made a wireless version...

@Nanos An open source hardware sounds nice, but I figure it'd get ridiculously expensive to manufacture a small batch. Maybe if it's just the software that's open source... My biggest gripe right now is the absolute joke that's the software that's used to control fan curves (AISuite). Maybe when I finally have the courage to go with watercooling, I'd be able to just pile up a bunch of radiators that have the thermal capacity to cool everything at minimum fan duty so that I don't have to worry about fan curves any more.

    @kamen

    I have a big desk :)
  • 0
@Linux No matter how big your desk is, you'd still have to move your left/right hand from the home row over to the mouse.

P.S. btw for some reason I thought this keyboard was wider on the right than a 100% when in fact it's not.

Is that one OG or a Unicomp? I've been thinking about buying a Unicomp Model M

    HJKL?!
Is this how we used to play games back in the days?
Strange thing is that I should be old enough to know this. But I don't.
