My HDD broke last night. Woke up to something making squeaking sounds. It was the HDD. When it broke, my laptop also acted weirdly. My laptop wouldn't even shut down. Let the battery drain, but lost the HDD. Something is broken, internal. Cannot recover the data myself because it no longer rotates. I now have to spend hundreds of dollars to get it to a data recovery company.

Do the cloud thing... or selfhost your own gitlab. I can help you get it running if you want

@Data-Bound I have Google Drive, Dropbox and One Drive. I have both a github and gitlab account, but I never knew you can selfhost gitlab.

@OnyxDarkKnight its actually rather easy, they provide a community edition with a super simple installer. Since its prepackaged you can even update with apt-get odet yum

@Data-Bound not sure if I'm awake or still sleeping but I really didn't get why self hosting gitlab on his own HDD will prevent him from loosing his projects on his HDD 😕😴😴

@azous the way I see it, they are suggesting to set up an own gitlab server, separate from the main pc
