Linusero6078yYou missed a third scenario for the people that doesn't know about IT
Person hates Windows,
Option a: Deal with it.
Option b: They have a friend that understand about computers, they call us. -
byisk878yIt's all about look and feel. I love Gnome, especially the old one (MATE nowadays). Elementary OS is also nice. Windows for me is like made for money... only. It doesn't have any cool features that makes you feel nice to use it. It's a product made for everyone. It's like a pop culture. In most cases lowering standards gives money because the product is better understood by masses. Windows for me is just a low quality product.
MATE, Gnome 3 or elementary are just comfortable to me. That's all. I think macOS is also cool and nice to use. But an Apple computer costs a fortune. -
jrab66548yFor me I suppose is the best tool for the work, actually use the 3 OS in different scenarios.
Linux: server, dev stuff
Macos: audio production, general best i/o driver for sound cards
Windows: some specific software o gaming in general.
Bragging about one or other is the problem in my opinion, of course. -
ASabbir2028yYou are absolutely right. I've seen both of these scenarios a lot of time. I've tried all of these OS, and Windows seems to fulfill all my needs. But I also love Linux.

flag020328yUbuntu just works on my laptop. I have to use Ethernet to download and install drivers on Windows. I never had problems on Ubuntu but with Windows I had never any problems.

I do like Windows and have used it for many many years. I've recently switched to Ubuntu. So I could learn a different OS however I do have Windows 8 on a virtual machine for those times I need to use Windows. I think every OS has its purpose. People shouldn't slate other OS except mac of course (jokes)

1) you don't need to compile from source for the average user.
2) just because a laptop is below 500 doesn't make it a potatoe. My device machine which consists of a quad-core A8, 8gb of ram (upgradeable to 16) and a TB had was 379$ lol -
Idk it's all about preference. I simply refuse to work with a closed source system and I usually tweak the shit out of my systems so yeah.

I have decent hardware on both my PCs (Haswell desktop and Skylake laptop, both with i5, 16GB an 250GB SSD) and Windows 10 runs incredibly great! I only had an issue once and was because the power went off in the middle of an update and since I had the restore points turned off I had to reinstall Windows. I've been running Windows 10 since the early previous and I'm really enjoying the experience. (I switched from macOS to Windows btw)
Related Rants
Sometimes I really feel bad for windows.
Someone with a potato Windows laptop that costs around $400 who has a bit of IT knowledge:
"Windows is so shit. Why does people buys this?"
installs Linux:
"OMG! Linux is so much better"
Even though it'll probably take a day or two to get the touchpad and wifi working. Want to install a software? Sure let me just download the source, compile it (Which will take another 2 hour to meet all the dependecies).
Another scenario:
Someone with a potato Windows laptop that costs around $400:
"Windows is such shit. Why does people buy this?"
Buys a $2000 Macbook.
"OMG! So much better. That's why people love mac so much"
I've used Fedora and Elementary for the last 3 years. But the amount of hate Windows gets is ridiculous.
