I've never had a great experience working with designers, but this one might be the laziest! Props if it's for a friend and unpaid though.15
I really hate it when we have to wear formal dress to office. I feel like a marketing executive. My code stares at me with suspicious looks.11
Me and my love-hate Linux.
I lost virginity really early. In the age of 5 it was my first time with windows 95. I spend almost 10 years with Windows before something happened that would change everything. I met Linux. Her forename was Arch. I had a crush on her right from the beginning. It didn't take long for me to abandon windows. Arch had everything I wanted. She had latex which was pretty hot and looked simply and elegant on her. Sometimes she was really hard to deal with and almost drove me crazy, but I knew I fell in love.
Until that day. I had to write a short paper which was quite fun and Linux helped me alot. It was a breeze to work with her. The evening before the deadline she was quite thoughtful. She sometimes was, so I thought it'll be alright, but this time was different. She struggled a bit, so I put her to sleep and she never woke up. I brought her to the emergency lab which was open 24/7. Since no one was there I had todo the surgery myself. After 5 hours I was almost to tired to continue when she finally woke up. I asked her about the things she should remember for me - then I killed her. I started to hate Linux for what she had done to me. The unbelievable stress and horror.
I returned to Windows. Besides that she got a bit more curious what I was doing when and where nothing really changed and she was glad to have me back. I just was happy how simple our relationship was.
One day then, I couldn't believe it at first, I met Archs sister. Manjaro. No matter how strange that is, but it was as if I would meet Linux again for the first time. She was just a bit simpler but as flexible as arch. Since then we are happy together. It seems that we both just grew up a little.
And with Windows? She got even more curious! Actually I have the feeling she is stalking me now, but I don't regret anything!15
My experience while learning C#:
>trying to print an HTML element of a website to console
>changes a few things in code
>runs code multiple times
>still doesn't work
>looks closely at code
>wait a second
>walks to wireless printer
>finds nearly 10 pieces of paper on the floor
>I hate myself5
> Find new remote job that pays six figures.
> Only person in the house with income.
> Still not left alone to fucking work.
JUST LET ME FUCKING WORK!25
👋🏻 So, yesterday I thought I'd quit...
👠 Today it turns out I've been fired, and my resignation wasn't opened 😂 😂
🖕 Hannah from HR
In fairness I did literally say that to Hannah from HR yesterday in a sort-of-attempt to get myself fired, so... I'm not quite sure who wins...13
Things I hate about Microsoft (Part 1):
Windows: Does things I don't want it to do. Is not user friendly. It is just user familiar.
Outlook / Hotmail: Drops emails silently, which are RFC conform and pass every other mail service. No error messages or notifications.
Edge: Does not / Partially support(s) some modern standards.
IE: No explanation needed.
Design language: border-radius: 0 !important
Business model: Let's make our own hardware, so we can compete with our hardware partners (HP, Dell, ...). Isn't that a perfect idea.
Tracking: Let's track everything of our users. Even how many photos they open in our OS*. What they get from that? Well they could get personalised ads on Bing. Isn't that a perfect model.
🎉 Today, I quit!

👋 I will miss (most of) the other people though. They were ok.
🤔 Now how am I gonna afford my coke and Bollinger hobbies12
JS gets a lot of hate lately.
The last month I was developing a mobile app that just showed information. I have to say ionic2 was quite good for it. Sure it's not native but I think it's a good thing for some apps13
> in da zone, headphones beating, caffeine rushing through my veins, snack-stack at 75%, code and commands flowing like campaign promises, I'm one with the keyboard... I can feel it ~(◉_◉)~
roomie: Hey J! J!
me: ಠ_ಠ I'm kinda busy, what do you want?
roomie: Dude don't forget to pick up bla bla bla
> Headphones back on, feeling the h4ckx0r fire resurge through my gut like a majestic phoenix (not to be confused with taco tuesday gut fire)
roomie: J...J! dude also make sure bla bla bla
me: ಠ╭╮ಠ I know, you don't need to be so specific with me.
> Headphones on...about to hit play again...
roomie: Dude do you happen to know bla bla bla
FUCK! just tell me everything at once so I can go back to ignoring you and the irrelevant world around me!
I hate when people do this.9
It's not that I hate PHP, I just hate the lack of consistency in standard function naming and parameter order, nonsensical attribute access, nearly-meaningless comparison operators, reference handling, case (in)sensitivities, and more!
I mean, look at these functions:
And look at THESE FUNCTIONS:
And let me jUST USE SOME ATTRIBUTES:
$object->attr = "No dollar sign...";
Class::$attr = "GOD WHY";
HOW ABOUT SOME COMPARISONS:
(NULL == 0) // true
(NULL < -1) // ALSO true
Functions AREN'T CASE SENSITIVE (at least variables are).
Wanna dereference? TOO BAD, YOU'LL HAVE TO GET OUT THE TNT.
Alright, yeah, I hate PHP.19
We had a mega rude, pompous asshat client come in who's company was SO disliked that someone made a hate site about them that was out ranking the client's actual site. They hired us to re-do their site and SEO to try to get back to the top results. We redid the site but we didn't improve the SEO. We also visited the hate site so many times we probably improved their ranking. 😂🖕🏻5
Noob: I hate $foo language! It sucks!
Me: Have you used the language before?
Noob: no because it sucks!
Me: have you tried using it?
Noob: no because it sucks!
Me: so how do you know it sucks?
Noob: because all my friends that use $baaa says it sucks.
Me: ........ I see your point... sheep 🐑8
Saying that Sharepoint was coded by a bunch of trained monkeys would be an understatement and an insult to monkeys. Why is it such a bloody mess? 😡7
In reality, it's one of the easiest languages to work with. This makes it easier for new programmers to write messy code, but is it the language's fault?
People get mad about the things that happen when you multiply "undefined" and a string...what do you expect?
You also have the freedom to choose from a variety of tools the community has created to solve existing problems. People just don't realize that they don't *have* to learn everything, you just learn as you need them.
Ok, I get it, stickers are "cool". However, every time I see a laptop full of them I can't help but think three things.
1) Why on earth would your ruin a perfectly nice, clean, design.
2) I see the stickers and think "wow, (s)he must really be a fan of a lot of tech companies
3) I think your were one of those kids in school that glued stickers of skateboard apparel manufacturers to your backpack because it was the "cool" thing to do.
But mainly the ruined design thing bothers me. Just..... WHY!?!15
Sometimes I really feel bad for windows.
Someone with a potato Windows laptop that costs around $400 who has a bit of IT knowledge:
"Windows is so shit. Why does people buys this?"
"OMG! Linux is so much better"
Even though it'll probably take a day or two to get the touchpad and wifi working. Want to install a software? Sure let me just download the source, compile it (Which will take another 2 hour to meet all the dependecies).
Someone with a potato Windows laptop that costs around $400:
"Windows is such shit. Why does people buy this?"
Buys a $2000 Macbook.
"OMG! So much better. That's why people love mac so much"
I've used Fedora and Elementary for the last 3 years. But the amount of hate Windows gets is ridiculous.17
I HATE it when I give my phone to my friends for like 2 mins and they clear my notifications and recent apps while giving back!
Drop brother off at a new years party, where he will be until sunrise partying with friends.
Me: Have fun!
Me: *drives back home, grabs laptop and opens up IntelliJ*
Me: Let the finger dance begin!
Have I mentioned I hate parties?4
*sees Meme about how bad language xy is*
Is there nothing else one can laugh about? Does it always have to be hate? Well... it's about rants, but at least hate your own language. Not others for theirs. That's their job. Amen.31
So, there is this guy whose arguments on "How Apple is bad" are
1) "while copying files in Finder, you don't see a speed graph (like in Windows)"
2) "MacBooks don't have a Touchscreen"
3) "it's slow"
4) "you can't play games (like GTA V)"
5) "having app menus always on the top of the screen instead of in every window makes no sense"
Arguments on "why Linux is bad":
1) "it's ugly"
2) no gaming (same as point 4 above)
3)... And other biased irrelevant shit
Yet his amazing old Windows 10 computer with the most recent Insider build has only a 65% chance of booting on the first attempt. Almost nothing works properly on his hardware yet he always blames something unrelated to him.
Recently I was having trouble with the workplace wifi (for few minutes I wasn't having full speed like he on the other side of the room had), and his reaction "aha, it's your macOS, never working".
Like wtf. I don't hate Windows or I don't love Linux, but I night hate him for being an arrogant cunt and I want to punch his face.9
Why is there so much hate against QA in general??
I read tons of rants about how bad testers are... and as a dev who does a lot of QA work, IT SUCKS!
We (devs) have to accept that are work needs to be tested! Otherwise we want be successful with our products.
BUT the testers need to know the development business! They should be trained at the same level as the devs are.
BECAUSE if the mug on my desk is smarter than the tester it is not going to work!
If the tester has full access to all the technologies, environments and tools (and are capable of using it) he has the ability to HELP!
I THINK that testing should be more than just follow predefined steps and let a random tool generate a bugreport.
I am sure that some of you are lucky enough to work with highly skilled testers so please let them help18
Got this email from my manager today... a bit of a downer to my three day weekend!
I actually don't talk about work (in an indentifiable way), and I think most of the other points in their guide are utter BS (and unenforceable).
I am pretty open (about myself) on social media though, so feel sorry for HR if they've been combing through it! 🤣42
the effort to get girls, and children for that matter into programming has been terrible. I never thought I could find something worse than code.org, but here it is: SmartGurlz (because what could be smarter than spelling your own gender wrong, right?). this was on shark tank and this lady was making robots to try to get girls into programming. they pretty much control dolls on wheels by means of scratch. it's terrible. first of all, how the fuck is that profitable? when a little girl wants to play dolls, what kind of girl wants to *program* it first. jesus, no kid wants that.
second, this girls who code thing makes me barf. the thought process for many organizations trying to push girls to code is "hmm, if we isolate girls and give them lower standards, then maybe they'll decide to go into a male-dominated industry," because, fuck logic right? idiocy is dreadful. lastly, what I hate most about so many of the girls coding organizations, is the fact that they have to embrace the stereotypes. almost every single one cares about "feelings" or something similar. its bullshit.
and don't get me wrong, women should have equal opportunity, but pushing them into stem fields isn't good. bias in the workplace is what we should be talking about, or other topics like women being paid less. trying to make girls interested in programming is complete bullshit, let them do what they want.
back to "SmartGurlz," I looked them up and they confirmed what I expected. the first thing I see? not anything related to programming whatsoever, but different dolls wearing different outfits. girls deserve something better, and shouldn't have to deal with organizations trying to push them into something they don't want to do.8
!dev but actual long rant - about the students in my grade.
TL;DR: 1 asshole in 10 people can ruin everything. Mobbing sucks. I dislike parties.
There's the word "Jahrgang" in Germany which means the people in the same school year as you. I'll refer to it as "my (collective) classmates" although we don't have classes anymore, rather courses and I also mean those I do not have courses with.
With that out of the way, let the rant begin.
It's often the case that people with high logical and intellectual skills (no being arrogant, other people categorize me like that) have a lack of social skills - or empathy.
I'm a kind of an outsider in a way that since 10th grade I stopped trying to attach myself to certain groups since I do not fit in there. I'm fine with that now. Nowadays I can at least socialize with other nerds.
Here's why I dislike the collective of my classmates. This year is my last school year and as always, a big group forms a spirit. They have a theme (superheroes - super boring). I didn't go to any party they threw and I don't plan to go to the graduation ceremony as well since it's an unofficial party and not a school event. I hate parties. I hate alc and drunken teenagers. I didn't attend the "Kursfahrt" - a kind of excursion that's like holidays with your course - mainly because I dislike my "Stammkurs" (main course).
Why? I had a friend in this course. She was short, geeky and I could actually talk to her. Yet some jerks (not intensely) bullied her because "she was awkward" and in the end, she switched school - also because of other reasons.
When she was gone, even those who didn't bully her and who are considered "nice" made fun of her and talked badly about her - and me hanging around with her. So since then, I avoid anything with them that's not 100% school related.
Now they're planning what we call "Abigag" - it's a joke/prank the graduates pull on the school and younger students, something funny like an entrance room full of balloons and many other things. Also, the "Abizeitung", the yearbook the graduates put out with articles about their courses, teacher ranking and quotes etc. Also, a cabaret evening from the graduates to collect money for the graduation party. Cool stuff actually. I thought about taking part.
I'd say my talents are creativity and computer stuff. So a friend chatted with me about nerdy pranks like a school-wide wallpaper change. Or releasing a fake password list of the teachers - claiming we hacked them - with puns and insiders about the teaches. He said he gotta invite me into the WhatsApp group of the Abi prank. Disclaimer: He's one of those people who are socialized but still able to talk with me. He's fine.
Well guess what he told me later:
They don't want me on the team since I distance myself from my classmates. I should either be fully one of them or not at all.
That's enough. Who distances whom? I thought they were happy to have me on board but horse shit! Stuck with ideologies from the 19th century.
They can lick my ***. I don't have anything against most of them in person but as a collective, they're just fucking stupid. I guess it wasn't even the majority saying they don't want me to help. It was probably just the small crew of leading and loud jerks. And no one would disagree with them saying "Why not? He wants to help?" (even if it was their opinion) - they don't have the brain or balls to say anything against the strong idiot leaders. They'll do great later in politics as an adult - they wouldn't criticize Hitler if they were under his "protection".
So I won't take part in making Abi pranks, - but also not the Paper and cabaret eve. They can go jerk off to being part of a huge collection of assholes - which I, in all my pride, am not part of other than on paper.
(Disclaimer: No critics to other outsiders but those who were engaged and responsible for the choice of not letting me help)
If anyone actually read this:
Who were/are you in school times?
A proud outsider like me? Party boi/girl? Engaged striver?25
I FUCKING HATE IT when you have a free day and you are so happy about it, because you can work on your projects, study things you want
you sleep a little bit longer, wake up
And suddenly you find out that you need to go to the other fucking side of the city in 3 hours and spend there half of the day.
There goes my free day...5
Sitting in an "Advanced Python" course (paid by my employer), I kicked something under my desk. I hope those guys know Python better than they know electrical security measures...5
Top 5 World’s Most Hated Programming Languages
Which one do you hate most?16
This is probably a dumb question but:
I've (maybe embarrassingly) never been approached by a recruiter. Why does everyone hate them so much?
Wouldn't being approached by, say, a recruiter from Google or Facebook or whatever be something to be excited about?24
Why I hate my job: 18 out of 21 developers are Chinese daily smokers barely speak English.
Why I love my job: We build software/hardware to predict future earthquakes and save lives and hundred million or even billions dollars in damages. And of course make China super rich by selling it.10
Things u truly HATE:
I'll start with mine
- XCode (I like Swift. It looks very much like Kotlin)
When 3/4 of my team gave up and left halfway through. I still don't understand how we ended up with a working prototype in the end.
A year ago, in the second programming course in uni, we had an assignment about making a linked list. It was nice, as I learnt how they are made. But then we had another, then a lab, and after that other 3 assignments adding functionalities to our list and improving it. It was horrible, but it was finally over.
The problem is that the following semester, the first assignment of the operating systems course was about making a list. The first assignment of the programmimg course made us implement a list too, to practice polymorphism. We had lists also for the last assignments for those two courses (they were about heaps and custom memory management respectively).
At this point I was completely fed up with lists. That brings us to the present, and guess what we are having for the first assignment of the algortihms & data structures course... Yeah. I hate linked lists6
**Me, while working on sql based project**
Manager: Does anyone knows java! Want a sample login screen written in java.
**I'm the only one in my team to know java, thus raised my hand**
Me: It's done. Mailed you the .java file.
Manager: I can see my password
Me: I fuckn hate myself. ***Forgot to set password field as password type***
Manager: you are no different than others.
Me: Yeah..😶 **f@#& you**1
A couple of months back we were discussing sh with a third party vendor for a very large ass fuck system that another department uses. I had been called into the meeting because the entire I.T department counts on me to at least act as an assessor to the many issues that other departments might have.
the department for which i was working with manages the databases that our institution uses, and in this particular question the DBA (my best friend mind you) was part of the meeting.
Mind you, issues that the third party vendor were having were all fixed by our DBA, and he had documented and mentioned these items to me as I provided assistance to him through the 3 weeks prior to this meetings. Once such case was that we needed a transitioning as well as intermediary system for some processes to happen from one DB to the other and a lot of other technical babble. Well, the DBA used to be an excellent (fuck you) VB developer who recently re-learned the language into .net. He had shown me many of his old programs and even by the limitations of the language they were elegant and fascinating. They really are and ya'll devrant fam know that I ain't one to hate on tech at all.
When the DBA explained how he went around some of the issues by generating programs that could assist him, he mentioned the tech stack, I had coached him into knowing that being descriptive about the tools he used would be beneficial to everyone else. While he mentioned VB.NET the vendor snickered and my boy got quiet.
Then I broke the silence, fuck you. "what was that?" and the dude said "nothing, sorry"
So I said "no no, I want to know, I am not going past this point until you, the dude getting paid over $100 an hour for something YOU couldn't fix explain to me the little hehe moment you had"
The mfker went silent. then explained how he was aware that people were moving past vb.net and shit like that, me "imagine that, someone used a tech stack that your ignorance thought obsolete to fix something you could not solve, even though we are paying you for it, were it me or in my hands, and mind you i have direct access to the VP so this foolishness might change, I would have cut you and your little sect loose months ago, I have no patience, or appreciation from leeches like you or the rest of the "professionals" that work for your company or other similar entities, much less, as you can see, my patience runs even less when you people snicker at the solutions that our staff has to take when you all slack"
The entire meeting was uncomfortable as high heaven.
Fuck you, if someone I know manages to run shit on fucking liberty basic then so fucking be it. I will slap you 10 fucking times over, and then fuck your girl, if you try to put someone else down for the tech stacks you use.
I hate neck beards, BUT I hate fake ass neckbeards ever more
*Colin Farrell in true detective mode: FUCK....YOU13
Fuckbug client has no brain but worse is fuckbug has not one bit of understanding.
I am a fucking developer not a fucking DESIGNER.
You are supposed to give me your fucking information. Information as in text and photos and documents that I can use with minimal modification for your FUCKING website.
It was fucking stupid of me to help you out with non-dev work in the first place. My fucking stupidest mistake of 2017.
Just for the fucking slider, this whole goddamn project is dragging for the whole 2017.
I even helped you out with taking the fucking product photo at your office with my camera so we can have decent images to use.
I stupidly helped you out with doing photoshop of those images with your product labels and stuffs.
But in the end, you fucking dare give me 1 properly designed image to use in slider. Then ask me to change the rest of sliders with similar design like that one. If you have that image why the fuck cannot you do the fucking rest by yourself and come and fucking ask me.
I fucking hate you.5
I have a love and hate relationship with programming. You'll see me as the happiest and most motivated person ever. The next minute, you'll see me as an extremely depressed suicidal person. Then when a code works, I jump like hell.1
Yayyyy this weekend will be fucked up too started windows 10 anniversary update it fucked up my grub and linux yayyyyy need to reinstall it ohh thats why i hate windows but need to uee it on tablet with at least dualboot with ubuntu because linux is on this machine unstable so yaayyyy1
I can never get over this 😥
We were taught 5-6 subjects of electrical or mechanical engineering in out freshman year 😃 and our course is called "computer science and engineering".
We had ONE subject in the whole fucking year that was related to the course, called "introduction to computer"!!!!
The second semester of the freshman year had no subject remotely close to computers, but yeah we learnt about thermodynamics and beams and Trusses and motors and welding 😒.
They should have also told us what we are supposed to do with that knowledge 😒.
What's the point!!!!
Will is make us a mechanical engineer 😒?
Also have you forgotten we are here to learn about computers and not about the tension in the rope of the pulley 😒?
Also we have no subjects,in the 4 year course about actual development 😃 not even old school web development.
Fucking hate this shit20
For all the hate going around about microsoft i just wanted to list things microsoft has done a great job at (imo of course):
probably more so don't hate for the hell of it.18
Rant by cozyplanes
F*** it. Seriously.
I am sure someone of u guys know I am applying for CS class.
I passed the test, and seems i failed the interview.
They asked me how i solved the problem in the test (the one i passed)
I explained, then, it seems the time(15min) has passed, so i came out while i was talking. They didn't asked my skills or interest, it was just explaining how i solved the question.
And the kid who got picked is the kid who did his final year project with scratch.
I just can't understand with the results.
1. WTF was that interview.
2. We first sent "about me" thingy, and i guess they only read that even though it may be fake. I wrote my skills (the one in profile especially unity and c# with some interest in ai and ml) but i guess they are looking for something else.
3. How can a scratch kiddy go to CS class? Maybe it was bcuz of the name. The final project name was BetaGo. Fuck it.
I hate life. Damn it. I hate life.
I thought for a moment, and the only way to succeed is to make the 2nd monument valley game. World famous, money, awesome life.
Just my thoughts. Random thoughts.
Thanks for reading til here. My mind is shaking now.
During the majority of my career, I've been the stereotypical pissed off guy with earphones in mashing away at his keyboard.
During lunch hours, I absolutely love listening to other pissed off devs. Their tales of buggy Microsoft products, oblivious project managers, dangerously unqualified directors, and severely disabled bosses are often the only thing that put a smile on my face in a workday, and here in Tokyo a workday is often your whole day. I don't feel there's anything wrong with it - the targets of their abuse often really are leeching tons of money while contributing little to nothing, so I feel like they deserve the abuse.
However, I don't like it when devs trash-talk other devs. I sympathize with those guys, even if they wrote bad code. I know writing good code is really, really hard, and I know that they were trying to do it under extremely difficult circumstances (in an office). If they're junior I sympathize even more because they're often better than I was when I had the same amount of experience.
So in conclusion, don't hate your fellow dev. Don't let hatred control you and poison your well-being. Direct your hatred where it belongs, at project managers.6
HATE “APPLICATIONS” THAT CHANGE BROWSER SETTINGS.
If you’re a “developer” who has ever created such annoying nonsense - come show me who you are, I want to punch you in the face.
There is a special place in hell for malware coders...4
So a Developer not using a React-native component library because it is backed by Microsoft
This is next level shit
PS:- the library is actually pretty decent23
I hate windows.
I hate Linux.
I hate Mac OS
I hate Android, iOS, whatever os
I hate programming..
I hate being employee, or whatever..
Shit, life sucks10
is google fucking with me today?
today i was accepted for some google summer internship program thing. they send me a google form right? so i open it up in chromium and it doesn’t work. it doesn’t let me type in any textboxes or anything. i try to fix it and no luck. then, i copy the link to firefox and voilà, it works.
so, google forms didn’t work in chromium but did in firefox? alright. then i check off yes, send me a copy of my responses to my gmail account. and guess what? gmail classified that as SPAM. google email classified a google forms email as spam.
good work google, you’re fucking stupid.7
When I say I hate cats an I'm replied with 'but they are so cute' and I find this pearl at home...
I fucking HATE cats!14
Eclipse: Hey, I found a nice little update for you
Me: ok, install it
Eclipse: nope, I can't find it ...
AAAAAAAHHHH I'm gonna kill you !!!!!4
I can't code
So 3 things i hate because i can't code. #selfrant
1. My father was a programmer in the 80-90ties. So he forced me at 11 years old to do a stupid "Java for Kids" book. You had to write sooooo much verbose code just that a stupid grey button would appear that looked ugly. I really really hated it.
2. Now I'm a graphic designer by trade. The first time I came in contact with something useful code related was in 2011. https://processing.org the generative design framework. It looked glorious! But it was in Java! I hated it.
3. I hate that i can't code because I'm dependend on you guys to get my design to become alive. Thanks to 3 years on devRant, the days arguing with a lazy dev that something can't be done is thankfully gone.7
Quirks of.... PHP 😂😂😂😂
It's just a quirky language, you either love it or you hate it, or you hate it because you caught the bandwagon in town.
Weirdest quirk though, would have to be function naming conventions and order of arguments.
Shit be crazy at times but you get used to it.1
I have to write an xml configuration parser for an in-house data acquisition system that I've been tasked with developing.
I hate doing string parsing in C++... Blegh!18
I hate most techbloggers...
"It is said that apart from HTML and CSS, Java is one of the [...]"
"React JS is an open source library made of Java scripts [...]"
An online community I've been part of for years has seen a lot of popularity/hate overnight due to a new policy. The influx of new people who want nothing to do with us but just drop by to troll and be cunts is impressive. Also, a significant amount of bots. I want my online home back :( I'm for the new policy and very much against these new clowns who don't really have any reason to be on our page. Before anyone yells gatekeeping, it's a site about knitting and crochet. Why would you go there if you don't know either craft and have no desire to learn or talk about those? So disappointed. I hope it brought new crafters in and that the trolls will go away soon. It's been such a nice place for so long with barely any idiots because it was reasonably small.. And now look at this mess. I logged in to 20 friend requests from people I don't know and am almost certain aren't real people.
Why is it so hard for humans to accept that some people may disagree with them and that's okay?17
Programming language types are only two:
- All the rest
I'm destroyed, my brain is melted.
Assembly is hate and love at the same time.2
Warning: I code just for fun.
Today I finished a website and I asked to my friends to tell me what they think about it saying that it wasn't yet properly responsive and that could be some error, so I asked if they could use the computer to view it and all of them sent to me screenshots of the website on mobile.
I hate them.
P.S. Sorry for my english...8
I freaking hate school curriculums, I have only 5 classes this semester, only two of them are career related and one is about QA, I want to focus on my code, projects, things that really matter but instead I have to do Socials homework, learn how to do research papers, learn about marketing. I really hate this. Besides the classes I have on development are extremely light. And I have to pay for this crap12
You know what kind of devs I hate?
- The "Oh I never worked with it so its shit"
- The "I dont wanna learn something new"
- The Pro ++ Ultra Dev who never heard of modulization and layering
- The hard coded values guy12
if you're someone who grades code, fuck you, you probably suck. Turned in a final project for this gis software construction class as a part of my master's degree (this class was fuck all easy, I had two weeks for each project, each of them took me two days). We had to pick the last project, so I submitted final project proposal that performs a two-sample KS test on some point data. Not complex, but it sounds fancy, project accepted. Easy money.
I write the thing and finish it, it works, but it doesn't have a visualization and that makes the results seem pretty lame, even though its fully functional. SO I GO OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY to add a matplotlib chart of the distribution. To do that, at the very bottom of the workflow, I define a function to chart it out because it made the code way more readable. Reminder, I didn't have to do this, it was extra work to make my code more functional.
Then, this motherfucker takes points off because I didn't define the function at the very beginning of the code... THE FUCK, DUDE? But, noobrants, it's "considered best prac--" nope, fuck you, okay? This class was so shit, not once was code style addressed in a lesson or put on any rubric - they didn't give a shit what it looked like - in fact, the whole class only used arcpy (and the csv mod once), they didn't teach us shit about anything except how to write geoprocessing scripts (in other words, how to read arcGIS docs about arcpy) and encouraged us to write in fucking pythonwin. And now, when the class is fucking over, you decide to just randomly toss this shit in, like it was a specific expectation this whole time? AND you do this when someone has gone out of their way to add functionality? Why punish someone who does extra work because that extra work isn't perfect? Literally, my grade would have been better without the visualization.
I'm not even mad at my grade - it was fine - I just hate inconsistency in grading practices and the random raising and lowering of expectations depending on how some grader's coffee tasted that morning. I also hate punishing people for doing more - it's this kind of shit that makes people A) wanna rip their eyeballs out, and B) never do anything more than the basic minimum expectation to avoid extra unwanted attention. If you want your coders to step up and actually put work in to make things the best they can be, yell at a grader to reward extra work and not punish it.4
People of Java.... Why do you love Java... It's so confusing and a pain to write.
Second off.... Why do I keep going back thinking I can write Java!!
WHEN I KNOW I HATE JAVA!!!14
I used to love Linux.
Now I hate it. I'm moving back to windows.
6th fixing time it's done this to me. When I try to login it just sends me right back to the login screen.
CTRL +ALT +F2 let's me login?!
Ugg I have a school paper to write.
So.. I moving back to the dark side.
This is what I get for trying out arch I guess.14
I hate it when recruiters write something like "I now that you don’t like recruiters, but maybe you like this offer."
WHEN YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE YOU THEN JUST STOP TALKING TO ME!2
I fucking HATE the Arduino environment right now.
First of all: you can't fucking put your project files in a sub folder to the main file. I can't write #include "src/motor.hpp" because it doesn't fucking know what that means.
Turns out you have to put all your header files in the fucking library folder common for all Arduino projects!
Secondly, you can't call your cpp headers hpp, they HAVE to be called h, or the Arduino environment throws a fit and begins whining about being unable to find the fucking files.
Not just that! You can't reference other Arduino libraries from within your library because the environment doesn't know what that means either.
To get around that you need to fucking include the library in your main file, AND THEN you can include it in the library file that uses it. After all, it should be the programmer's job to soon feed a so called IDE, right?
I'M SO FUCKING DONE WITH THIS SHIT! 😤
I'm ready to either program the Arduino directly with an AVR programmer or even port the entire project to the raspberry pi where I have a proper fucking Linux environment with a proper fucking directory structure so I can code proper fucking C++.
Hell I'm even fucking willing to spend all weekend porting all the code myself if necessary.
It's not reasonable that correct fucking C++ code is invalidated because I called the files something "wrong" and put them in the "wrong" directory.
"user friendly project board" my ass12
I wonder if stackoverflow downvoters are here on devrant and can explain all this hate on each and every junior question2
First rant ever... But like, I just have to... So I'm at my internship and everythings going good, I'm working on the UI portion for the Android portion of the cross platform Xamarin app, and im just frolicking through my code, making things pretty and usable like a good xaml cow, and then it hits me... The Apple portion...
Now, I have a great computer, love it to death, but it's not an Apple laptop. Which I didn't realize I'd need to have in order to develop a Xamarin app for iOS, but I didn't know that, so as I go up to innocently check off another portion of my daily coding routine, and then I see it. The "please connect your Apple computer to continue". Im here like "...", And suddenly my supervisor comes over and sees my screen blank with my utter look of confusion and he asks why the hell I wasn't working, to which I respond that Xamarin won't let me work with iOS, to which he replies "bullshit, just use the other side of your computer" I'm confused for a second and realize he means my Linux install. So I tell my supervisor politely that that side of my computer isn't an Apple computer and doesn't have an actual licence. This annoys him since he's kind of used to things going his way, so he kind of just angrily/annoyedly says to "get it working" before I clock out... So essentially, I really hate apple for making me have to own an Apple computer to develop for Apple, which I don't really like, since it's not the best computer for me and I'd much rather have a nice bulkier computer that can handle gaming, but yeah, ugh, I'm screwed b/c I don't own an Apple computer... DevRant save me from the cash sucking sadness that is Apple... ;-;
TL;DR: I kinda hate apple for forcing it's devs to own an overpriced piece of hardware to develop their software... And now my supervisor is expecting me to make magic happen by the end of my shift... Which is in 4 hours... Fml11
I just saw someone write about how much he hates school and it reminded me of all I am about to say:
I go to a fancy private school in my country full of shitheads and idiots that think that they can rely on their parents money for the rest of their lives, are always concerned about the latest trends (yeezys, dabs, fidget spinners... etc) and it just gets on my nerves as I have to live with all that and have almost no friends since I failed my class two years ago, when I sit in school I can't focus on anything the teacher says which in turn contributes to my shit grades and there is nothing I can do about it. I have been diagnosed with persistent depresseive disorderand bouts of major depression and my mom won't accept to give me adequate medication because she says(although this is not always the case) that antidepressants can trigger the bipolar disorder that runs in my family, and on top of all this shit, ever since I was 7 I have been raised by my single mother after my father died (I never tell people that my father is dead usually because I hate the look of pity I get coming out of their faces) and my mother has been screwed over for all her life because she can't make a good decision or call bullshit even if you put a gun to her head.
And what I hate most about all that is that I have no one to talk to because my mom is one of those religious freaks so I can't talk to her about my real deep thoughts, and every psychologist or counselor I have been to has been shit.
And this is just another chronicle of my miserable fucking existence.21
CSS, I fucking hate you.
I fucking hate my job, because of you. I'm pulling my hair out every day, all day because I have to put up with your bullshit. If it weren't for you, I'd probably enjoy design.
You're not even programming. You're the mistake that happened when web-design developed too rapidly for the devs at the time to keep up and produce intuitive, functional tools. That, or they were just fucking sadists.
You're a band-aid that's started to rot, but we just keep sticking pretty stickers over you and pretending like the wound isn't festering.
I wish I could spend more time learning C and C++. Then I could go get a real job as far away from you as is virtually possible.
. . .
Look, just this once - just for today - could you please do what I fucking ask you to. I mean, I'm just asking you to do your fucking job. That's all.22
Referring to my previous rant
Now I got a job as a java developer. 😑😑😑
Karma bites you in the ass.3
Why so much hate for Windows? I can do all the scripting that I do on Linux on Windows as well. AutoHotKey for the win! In fact, the hacks that I can do on Windows directly cannot be done on Linux unless I have the terminal open. I'm still learning, yeah, so I'll learn how to do that in due time, but I've never had any issues with drivers, software issues, or security threats while using Windows.
And Windows Defender is so good now! I don't need an antivirus. Well, good browsing habits and common sense is enough of an antivirus so it's a moot point anyway.
Either way, I like embracing the power of AND. Why choose? I love both Windows and Linux!26
I'm really sick of the "six-figure" advertisement that the industry uses to encourage more people to go into programming. The amount of people who hate coding with a passion but are in it because they want money is staggering. A lot of them end up dropping out. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who dearly loves this field. Truthfully, this approach won't resolve our retention problems.2
I just fucking hate BGAs* that unsolder themselves.
So, thanks to my laptop slowly breaking apart I decided to reactivate an old netbook my father gave me back in 2014(?) when it failed, to have a device on standby if necessary.
Wasn't really planning to repair it and kept it for spare parts mostly as the whole device is a fucking design failure concerning heat dissipation.
But yet again, I thought I'd give it a try one-two years ago. I soon found out it was said heat problem that caused the error in the device and it'd probably only take some reworking using a heat gun, which I did. Netbook worked for some hours, then was dead again, same error. Lost motivation and stashed it until this week.
Reworked with a hair-dryer this time and it worked! Well, until this morning - same error. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried to run a VM and then shut down the device right after that.
I will now try only one more time, this time just baking the whole damn main board thoroughly.
Either it works or it's really dead after. Either way, I'll be somewhat happier then.
* Ball Grid Array - package type for electronic components like ICs/uControllers8
This screen is so much filled with hate, when taking a break, without wifi... Those apps that force you to update -.-7
Employer uses IBM Software, which forces me to use Eclipse. I hate eclipse. Hate is a hard word. I'd never say, I really 'hate' a person. But eclipse, eclipse is what I hate. I can look at my smartwatch and see my heartrate rising, just thinking of how the fuck any developer on this crappy planet would ship that bullshit IDE. That saying, I'm totally fine with some bugs, using windows and so on, but eclipse... Is this a get-more-contributors strategy? Holy moly it really kills me. Hey, let's just open that maven Proj.. Oh, crash. Hey, let's install that "bug-free" version of the maven-integratio... Oh, crash. Let's do a global search over my worksp.. Oh, freezed. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! How can this be legal? I mean, seriously, most junoir devs I know, just use Eclipse, because they don't know of any other "better" IDE (VIM would be better, even notepad). Is there anyone sucking professors cocks / vaginas to get them introduce that crap IDE to students?3
Who's there ?
And thaaaat's the lesson i learned today after I spent two hours staring at code, to find out that the solution was just moving an unlock_mutex() a few lines down.
Whoa, I was about a two months away from devRant and when I came back people are trying to make PHP as the new Nickelback for programming? That's just unfair, with both of them. I love Nickelback. I love PHP. PHP was my very first language that I started to study around 11 years ago, when I was just 12. PHP made me get my first job and introduced me to a world where I decided to create my own company, a comic book network. PHP led me to my current path, which I deeply love what I do and I fortunately employ 12 people, which are not even coders! See? One language indirectly affected the life of 12 families. Yes, I discovered new languages that I currently have more fun using like nodejs, but that doesn't mean that PHP sucks. Free and unfounded hate sucks.2
Developers are supposed to be eager to try new stuff, however most devs on devRant prefer to hate on Edge and hate who use it.
I'm not here to defend Microsoft but I bet 95% of the people that hate on Edge haven't tried the latest version.
It's really easy on weaker hardware and on battery life. Try using an old ultrabook (2nd gen i5) as I did for some time while using Chrome or Firefox as your main browser!22
This is why I hate Windows:
For about a month now, I've been learning/working on salesforce, so my Macbook was enough for me.
Today there was a bug in something I built in iur Python backend, and since it has a dependency on windows, I booted the old guy up.
And this is what I see. For about 1.5 hours this went on.
Then it started, but system consuming 100% disk and 80+% CPU. Can't do a thing.
And when zoom finally opened (for a quick meet), the camera turned on halfway down the meeting, and then the system restarted on it's own.
Old man showing that same screen again for more than 30 minutes.
Since I have dual boot on this one, I hard-shutdown it using power button, and now boot into ubuntu 20. This works so beautifully (although it froze for about 5 seconds before popping up the updates panel, something I CHOSE to keep enabled). I try going back to Windows, and it's hell again.
Here I am now trying to set up a ec2 instance and setup the app source there so that I can debug with RDP.
And yeah, Component Object Model is a motherfucking bitch. Person who invented it should die. People who build apps leveraging this should die. Business leaders who say "Hey this app (built with COM) can solve the problem easily, so use this" should die choking on their own phallus. And developers like me who keep using this because "the last guy did this" should die too.
Microsoft and it's products are the death of sane people.
Fucking Gates. Its the same damn hardware.14
Ok, I see a lot of hate about PHP and I always wondered what is the experiences people have had with PHP to like or dislike it.
Personally, PHP was the first programming language I learnt and used, so it has it's special place in my heart.
I acknowledge that it has it's pros and cons (as any other programming language). My hypothesis is : People have used php in a project they didn't like or didn't turned out how they expected. Or they used php for something it wasn't ment for.
Do people hate php because it's a trend ? How many php haters have good reasons to hate it that much ?
I'm just curious to know the thoughts and experiences (good or bad) of other devs.13
WOOOP-DE-FUCKING-DO I HATE MY ISP (well actually the company which is reliable for the cable networks which lead to my/our new home).
WhAtEvErYoUmEaN and I moved yesterday to a new flat. Not spectacular at all except that mentioned company cancelled the appointment ON THE SAME FUCKING DAY! "We're so sorry. No internet until Thursday. At least"
Well, so we are here in the middle of nowhere without internet. Time for old school books i guess😅7
All company meeting to discuss plans to move office, and they want to change all of the devs to hot-desking?!
Would be interested in your guys experiences if any of you have done it, but I feel I'd be affected a lot as I only work 3-4 days a week.
I literally stood up and left the meeting, saying I'd quit if they did it. I'm far more comfortable and productive with my setup and space. Knowing my co-workers they might think I'm saying it for drama but I think I actually would leave, despite everything else being fine (except HR!).16
I hate Twitter so much right now! I was trying to embed a timeline into my new website and it kept only showing me a link. I thought that my server config was messed up and re did everything from scratch. It turn out that when you use the Twitter embed tool, it doesn't add "https:" in front of the link to the js file. There is a week of work wasted because of a broken link.1
I won a Site of the day award on css winner today. I was happy for a minut and now i feel like shit. Acheving goals makes me feel empty. I hate my brain.5
After years of working on projects where you git clone, npm install, npm start, I get catapulted into this PHP nightmare built on Symfony, and that has zero documentation or tests...
I hate Mondays.3
I can't tell you how many hours have been lost because I have accidently clicked and dragged a file in to some random spot in the solution explorer!
- Enterprise patterns
- Enterprise type programming
- Dependency hell
- Logging hell
- Proxy hell
- Debugging hell
That will be all.7
- 5 days until customer integration test. I finished my work for the test a week ago so I am relaxed. 10 days of estimated work for other team, 1 dev scheduled for this task.
I reminded of the deadline, which seemed not realistic anymore; "Don't be so pessimistic" they said, "Everything is fine", "We'll get it done".
- 2 days to go and half of the system doesn't work, the external test system rejects all data (nobody had time to read the specs -> let's call it 'assumption based development' (ABD))
I reminded of the deadline, and that I would like to have an internal test with all components beforehand; "Don't be so pessimistic" they said, "Everything is fine", "Just some minor issues".
- 1 day to go and dev from other team called in sick... (and I can really empathize this decision); "Someone else can jump in and finish the work" they said.
- An hour later the test was cancelled not even 24 hours before it should take place. We could have rescheduled the test more than a week ago, that wouldn't have been so disgusting and even save our customer some hours of preparation effort.
I hate myself when I was right from the start but wouldn't enforce my position because I'm too kind sometimes.
I just went to SO to browse questions and learn something or help someone...
THE FREAKING PRINTSCREEN OF IDE
INSTEAD OF COPYING THE CODE
And you know what's worse?
There was also a PHOTO of the output from the console.2
I've just got in from bar* work, a little drunk*!
My last dev employer actually offered me my old job back, but as HR are so awful I said the situation was past that and demanded compensation. A nice payout agreed for me, for not taking it to tribunal 👍
Now for the new job! I thought working the night scene would be fun, but it's not well paid and the freelance I have is but it's hard to juggle the two.
I might have a break or a month or so doing this, then look for another job.
Anyone recommend good companies LGBT friendly in London?16
This is the story of the API documentation.
Which btw I couldn't find on the producent's website anywhere. I had the pdf shared with me by a coworker.
I knew the api was fucked up the moment I looked at endpoint documentation.
GET params? WHERE, ORDERBY etc. Literally make a SQL select in a GET request.
Returned stuff? The whole thing. Not some DTO, you literally get everything you can get.
Eg if you get IP in your response, you get it in several formats: dotted form, as hex, and as int. In 3 different json fields.
Oh, and regarding IP - one would imagine you can use masks or prefixes for subnets, right? Nope. The only param you can use there is the subnet size. So you have to calculate the power of 2 every time you want to make a request.
That's from the endpoint documentation. But what about some general info on the API, before all that?
As I was looking for something, I decided to read that intro and general info about the API.
Okay, so there was a change log between API versions. "removed [endpoint which sounds like correct REST design], please use [this generic thing with SQL-like GETs]"... Several of them.
And there was also this sentence which said that the API is not restful, "it's REST-like". <facepalm>
If it was a bad attempt at REST API, I would let it go. But this sentence clearly showed they knew they did everything wrong. And the changelog showed they didn't stop there, they were actively making it worse.1
[not really a rant] I've lost 1 hour to explain to a .NET boomer developer that I like C# but I hate .NET. I had to explain even why they are different things.
I hate this kind of people10
What's worse in an open office?
(Shamelessly stolen from Twitter, credit @dustin)19
God I hate my job I hate my job I hate my job.
I know that you are supposed to make more than what you have been hired in the first place today, especially in tiny company, but I expected to code a little bit...
This week, all I have to do is to deep-etch pictures in photoshop, send packages, answer the phone, do the SEO and be the community manager on Facebook. No time to code at all.
I just have to stay till august, then I will finally be able to switch company. Please make it fast...6
Anyone else enjoy "uncropping" images embedded in MS Office documents? People cropping out other windows/tabs from full screenshots... I've seen some weird stuff!
It's not unusual to be sent documentation / screenshots saved as MS Office documents (Word, PowerPoint etc.). Kinda annoying but whatever.5
Like who the fuck uses tables anymore for websites. like Fuck. what the fuck is wrong with this company. then uses InDesign to make the websites and slices the images in Photoshop. this isn't the fucking stone ages. upgrade your shit. fucking design team wanna be responsive but fucking to lazy. so I have deal with their shit. when they complain about fucking image Sizes. I fucking hate this company.4
I fukin hate App reviews in Apple Store :/ My app, basic cordova webview and Onesignal push, was rejected again! For fifth time! Now for IPv6 in-compatibility.3
I hate when I it's night, I have ideas/want to work on my projects or study, but I'm way too tired..
I can't work, because I will only develop new bugs
I can't study, because I can't receive information anymore
And I can't fucking sleep either because I am constantly thinking about how much I WANT to do.
Absolutely hate it...4
Why I hate my job some days, the whole app crashes if you expand the details, then hit edit but is fine if you hit edit then expand the details. You gotta be kidding me.4
I hate android studio. No wait i love it. No i hate it. Can't seem to make up my mind about it. Its slow, kills my computers performance, messy interface. But despite that it's something appealing about it. Everything seems to be avaliable for previewing as one work.. aaand then it breaks my computer and I hate it again..3
Why do people complain when you try and help them ?
I remember in my last job, folk started going all whinny when I made their life easier by reducing the amount of work they had to do.
And now, I notice again, you try and help folk, and they just complain and hate you for it !
Why is that ?21
Tired of dealing with shitcode, that's all I always inherit. Maybe I picked the wrong career? or maybe I shouldn't have even read about things like SOLID or picked up Clean Code.
Then again if I hadn't, I wouldn't be where I am. But I'm unhappy. Why do I always get these projects where the poeple who wrote them (and dissappeared) clearly had no proefficiency on the used tech stack.
Am I ever gonna be part of a project with an actual lead/architect, who strives for the code not to rot?
Maybe I'm just being a little bitch whinning over this?
Halp!! the more I code, the more I hate it. It wasn't like this when I was the architect. But I didn't make as much money as I do now...
What do I do4
I fucking hate Microsoft. I fucking HATE it.
I'm supposed to be setting up a Hyper-V VDI environment on a Windows Server 2019 instance. I got all RDS roles installed, but can't see any fucking templates to make a collection out of.
I don't think that the RDVH role got installed correctly because it can't communicate properly with the RDCB, but both roles are installed on the SAME SERVER. I get stupid and unhelpful errors like "Error: 0: ScenarioBasedDeployment: Job Finished for Cmdlet" and when I tried to create a Quick Start Deployment: "QuickVMCollection: Provisioning job failed. Reason: ". Yeah, I typed that correctly. No reason listed.
I reach out on Technet, and I'm told that I need to contact Microsoft Support directly because my problem is beyond the scope of the forum.
I try contacting Microsoft Support, and they want to charge $499 for a one-time helping fee.
My company does not want to spend any money, and we do not already have support services.
I'm supposed to have VDI set up and working by Friday.
The thing that I most hate is when you're approaching a new framework/tool, you follow the official documentation and the first example doesn't work.
I'm trying the official documentation of webpack, I tried the first example and guess! Error! It says that's probably a breaking change. Where the hell should I learn it? I don't have the crystal ball, should I guess how your fucking tool fucking works? Oh my god, it's ok if you introduced breaking changes, but just update all the references, is it so hard?
I hate debugging document oriented data types..
Can't even sysout easily like primitive data types.
Need a debugging duck.1
Never hated or loved Microsoft.
After joining devRant, within 4 days I hate Microsoft more than ever. Thanks Guys.
So sick of my pessimistic, paranoid supervisor. She's always accusing everyone of being spies and has opinions on everyone.... Complains abt management and everything under the sun.... But when management comes in the room... Quiet as a mouse, because in her words ,'I don't wanna fix anything'
THEN WHY THE FUCK ARE U COMPLAINING!?!?
U clearly see nothing wrong and that's why u don't wanna change it
Fucking hate people who endlessly complain1
I Fucking hate people!!!!!
Im not a nazi but i hate people.!
I hate every one! White， blqck， yellow， beige， purple and dont get me started on the orange ones!!!
I hate people woth physical disabilities， i hate people with mental disabilities， hell i hate people who hate disabilities.
I hate people.
I hate people who are isually good but only occasionnaly bad， i hate people who are bad， i also hate people who are nice bur dont know shit about coding.
I hate emos as well even if i sound like one.
I juse hate people and for that i hate myself....
Makes me want to listent to tayler swift no shit.16
Stories like the one I'm about to tell you are just another reason why people hate Windows. I know I usually preach 'Don't hate everything' and shit, but this is a real big fucking deal when it hits your desktop for no reason.
Now, onto the actual story...
Background: Playing with my Oculus, fixing issues like forgetting to use USB3 and stuff. I learned about an issue with Nvidia GPUs, where in Windows, they can only support 4 simultaneous displays per GPU. I only have the one GPU in my system, Nova, so I have to unplug a monitor to get Oculus and its virtual window thingy working. Alright, friend gave me idea of using my old GPU to drive one of my lesser used monitors, my right one. Great idea I thought, I'll install it a bit later.
A bit later...
I plug the GPU in (after 3 tries of missing the PCI-E slot, fuckers) and for some reason I'm getting boot issues. It's booting to the wrong drive, sometimes it'll not even bother TRYING to boot, suddenly one of my hard drives isn't even being recognized in BIOS, fuck. Alright, is the GPU at least being recognized? Shit, it isn't. FUCKFUCKFUCK.
Oh wait. I just forgot the power cable Duh. Plug that in, same issues. Alright, now I have no idea. Try desperately to boot, but it just won't I start getting boot error 0xc000000f. Critical device not found. Alrighty then. Fuck my life, eh?
Remove the GPU, look around a bit while frantically trying to boot the system, and I notice an oddly bent SATA cable. I look at it and the bastard is FRAYED AT THE END! Fuck, that's my main SSD! I finally replace the SATA cable and boot, still the same error... Boot into a recovery environment, and guess what?
Windows has decided to change my boot partition, ya know, the FUCKING C: DRIVE, from NTFS to RAW format, stripping it of formatting! What the actual fuck Microsoft? You just took a shit on yourself while having a seizure on the fucking MOON! Fine, fuck you, I have recovery USB! Oh, shit, that won't boot... I have an old installation! Boot ITS recovery, try desperately to find a fix online... CHKDSK C: /F... alright, repairing, awesome! Repaired, I can see data, but not boot. So now I'm at the point where I'm waiting for a USB installer to be created over USB 2.0. Wheeeeeeeeee. FML.
THESE are the times I usually hate Windows a lot. And I do. But it gets MOST of my work done. Except when it does this.
I'm already pissed, so don't go into the comments and just hate on Windows completely. Just a little. The main post is for the main hate. Deal with it. And I know that someone is going to come at me "Ohhhhh, you need FUCKIN LIIIIIIINUUUUUUUXXXXXXXX!' Want to know my response to that?
"This is now urgent we are in risk of breach of contract."
*travels an hour just to discuss*
"Oh don't worry, don't panick about it, so and so is probably sorting it. We most likely don't need it."2
Damn, help me guys. Tomorrow I'm invited to a "friends" party.
Don't want to go, but have to. I hate partys. I hate all this shit, alcohol, drunk people. Have to stay there for at least 6h, until 1am or so. I hate drinking alcohol, doing stupid alcohol drinking games.
And I don't like this friend. I don't have much contact with him in the last few months. I thought he would understand that I don't like him. But no - he never lets me alone. Don't want this.
Let me fucking code - I want to have my free time, let me alone. Don't need that friends. The school mates on my apprenticeship are good enough for me, they are friendly, thinking the same way and don't drink alcohol all the time.
I hate this. Damn. Hopefully I will survive this fucking party. Maybe I can browse devRant half time of the party.
Am I the only one who doesn't need all that shit? Partys, alcohol, social interaction all the time?19
At 12:38 AM, I am working in the office alone on a project that I hate with my guts.
Since last month I am feeling nothing. In the morning I don't want to get up and go to the office. I do not feel any excitement in my job. Even I hate talking to people, I still have to join 4 meetings and talk to them.
As the Project Manager, I hate taking responsibility for other people's code.
Writing emails to stupid business people and talking to them at the meeting, I hate those people.
I have worked for almost 16 hours per day for 2 months to finish this project. Even worked on Sunday. The project is not finished. The scope and requirement get changed daily. The client has no fucking idea of what they want.
I have no fucking idea what I want to in my life. I just want to go home and get a good fucking sleep.
Whoever is reading this, I hope you have better time in your life than me.
And please tell them this will get better. I need to hear it.5
I have a confession to make, I use a light theme, and I like it.
There. I said it. You can all hate me now.
It helps me to focus tho, as I use a dark UI theme. It really brings out the code.12
Playing in hackerrank and they do not have ruby in one of the "30 days of code" challenges.. I had to do it in php .. it took me nearly 40 minutes, fucking PHP I hate it.
I have waitsted whole my day searching a bug with memory allocation in C++, and still don't know how to fix it! That moment, when coding took me far less time than searching that fucking bug... I feel that i missed anything, but all looks ok
I HATE C++ WITH IT'S FUCKING POINTERS!!!!!25
Are you willing to share details of your salary, or for contractors your daily/hourly rate? If you're not, that's interesting to know too.
Interesting to know;
- Currency (hopefully obviously)
- Location of work (or if remote, primary location of employer?)
- Contract type (FT/PT employee, contractor/freelancer)
- Job title (or general activity for contractors)
- Number of years in role/contracting
- Whether or not you would or have shared your salary with a co-worker (perhaps you're willing to share here but not with a co-worker)
The 'Why is it soooo taboo to ask co-workers salary?' question made me think about this (https://devrant.com/rants/1557306/...)10
Have been working on some front-end mock-ups with Bootstrap. Client suddenly required changing framework to Clarity framework, which I never heard of. After some brief googling, I thought I had to redo everything and build with angular too. Almost thought about quitting as I hate angular or any JS framework that much...
Later found out Clarity UI can be installed separately from angular, and it's actually based on Bootstrap, so I don't seem to need to redo anything.
I could never wrap my head around angular or react. The project/folder structure looks completely different, and I've always felt MVC is for back-end. I've hated back-end since the start, and I feel these kind of frameworks are blurring the line between front-end and back-end. That's why I mostly work on informative websites and rarely touched web apps, and none that's JS framework-based. However, this is greatly limiting my career choices.
I really don't want to do adult shit tomorrow. I really hate mondays. Shit is slow af in the office since everyone is on meh mode.
Not only that but tomorrow I have to go on an 1 hour drive to the other campus (I work at a college) to ensure that one of our products is good to go (its not, but it aint my fault or the lead developer, shit is from a different era and the programmer that made it was beyond crappy...we have not been given time to update) and just.....just no ok?
I sometimes hate being an adult. Sure, its got some perks....the only thing that comes to mind is sex right now but I am sure there are more.
Anyone have experience taking SSRIs? What's the first week or so like, did it help long term, and any withdrawal issues?14
I hate front end !
My friend just tried to help me with it and I was happy to be relieved of the shitty work!
He didn't make it responsive ! And now I am back to square 1. 😑6
I fucking hate React.
Ohh and I especially hate WordPress implementation of said abomination in their Gutenberg editor.12
NDAs for me are a good predictor for a bad client or client relationship.
Doesn't work so well for larger cos, and it's not unusual for them to require one anyway.
I charge a fairly high flat fee for signing one. The people who won't pay probably don't need the NDA anyway and were going to be problematic.3
Two years of my life I've kept in this project, sacrificed many weekends and peaceful thoughts ! worked my ass off to be an impact in the team and in delivering project...in spite of all that I still can't get ON SITE and all I get is some fucking bullshit appreciation from PM which he didn't even cared to tell one on one ...I hate my f**king life ! 😥😢2
F++ you! You never here when I need you. You force me to sleep when I want to code. You force me to code when I want beer. I hate you, time!1
The thing I hate the most at the moment, is working/receiving tasks on chat (Skype, telegram).
Content, corrections and all. As I like to scroll my hand off to copy your fucking content while you keep writing on an on.
Write a motherfucking document!
Now I start raging at the any chat notifications 😡😈2
I hate when build takes forever to complete and all my enthusiasm drains out.
The main reason I am not being productive.
A UK bank (building society) are giving away a free home security camera if you take out their home insurance product.
Seriously!? I do NOT want to install a camera, given to me by my bank, in my flat!
What I really hate? When a piece of code simply refuses to work. No logs, no exceptions, no sign that it even exists. HOW THE FUCK I'M SUPPOSE TO DEBUG THIS SHIT?? I drives me crazy, if everything I do changes nothing! It makes me doubt my sanity. And I like my sanity!3
I think as a developer the most frustrating bugs to troubleshoot are cookie and session bugs. Idk why but i hate these the worst. Second in line are cache bugs.2
I hate buzzwords so much, once in school our class of 7 people got a presentation about some program which should have made our life easier. The problem I had was that the person presented with every second word being a buzzword. At some point a just shut down my mind for the rest of it. After the presentation when the class talked about it and I refused to use the program. The whole class had to use another one because of me.2
Had a course in software architecture. Our final project was to fully design a program with microservices. No explanation was given on technologies, tools or even the specific logic. We had a total of like 5 "lectures" and only one or two of them were about microservices. Also the guy didn't reply to emails and our questions remained largely unanswered.
We had 4 weeks for the job, and together with massive homework amounts and other projects we wrote a website in MVC which is, apparently, not designed in MSs. Also all the papers we had to provide with it (full design, UML diagrams and system analysis) were as clear as a fucking swamp. And the "lector" had a metric fuckton of issues with it when we presented it.
I fucking hate this course and this college.2
When your PC is slow af cause of the hard disk so you make a dumb decision and change your hard disk with a new one and you gotta install Windows on it but you only have very old images of it so it requires a special USB driver to install the system and THEN you realise the setup image has NO DRIVERS for ethernet, wlan OR usb so you can do absolutely NOTHING with your fresh system so you decide to install linux instead but you realise YOU'VE REMOVED ALL X64 IMAGES BECAUSE YOU'RE FUCKING DUMB SO you prepare a bootable Kali USB to copy basic drivers and DriverBooster into the hard disk to install them on Windows.
AND THEN YOUR FRIENDS CALL YOU AND TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE 2 EXAMS TOMORROW BUT YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE THE COMPUTER SO YOU JUST GO FUCKING KILL YOURSELF
This is why I HATE MY LIFE SO MUCH IT GOES SO WRONG !!!!4
"Who ever said money can't solve your problems?
Must not have had enough money to problem to solve them."
Bitter truth for many.
Hate grows inside my soul when you are talking about a new feature and it's implications in the code base. Then you suggest a first approach, everyone agrees but one, someone whos rotten soul is craving for bloodshed, someone who says something like "Hell now, that's too much work" and then after hours of arguing he/she/it proposes the exact same approach... saying it's a better way.
Why do people hate jQuery so much? 30KB is basically nothing in times of modern bandwidth and for me CSS selectors are mich more readable than the Vanilla JS functions.
Im not judging and would be happy if someone explains it to me or shows better alternatives.4
Spent 2 hours today doing L1 support work!!! God i hate working with lazy people!!!
2 hours wasted checking for an application bug on all deployed client pcs when the only issue is the printer has no fucking paper!!!
L1 and L2 support exists for these kind of issues!! Do your god damn jobs!!!
just read this article (german),
in the interview section, there was the magic sentence
"developers hate recruiters"
it is argued that they do not speak the same language, nor do they have the same background(recruiters are mostly HR or marketing people)
i hate those recruites, who are not even able to write my firstname correctly, when trying to contact me
any other reasons to hate them?3
Hate working Mondays because I can't be any where near people or social media due to spoilers of got.....
Another reason to hate Java
It seems that Java is immune to OR 1=1, because of course, 1.0 is not the same as 1.0;4
I hate being a dick as much as the next guy, but damnit I hate spam even more!
And I can't think of a worse kind of spam than religious propaganda sent by your own family members when they already know you ain't religious, heck they even tried to kick me out of the house when I lived with them.
"...send this to 8 more people you wish a day full of blessings"
"YouTube - 10 ways to meditate with Jesus"
"How Stephen Hawkins proves God"
I've had enough, WhatsApp isn't for people to evangelize or send 3000+ characters of copy pasted, mass produced, soul-less "good wishes"; that's why from now on I'm bringing the fight to them, for every spammy text/video/image I get I'll double down and send 10 opposing spam videos or messages.
I just replied a "The most beautiful thoughts, talking to God" video with the monologue of George Carlin on religion and God.
Am I being a dick? kinda
Could I just ask them to stop? I find this more amusing and spares me the "you don't want me to 'talk' to you" shit4
This is a place for ranting, right? It's "Dev"-"Rant", right?
So, why so much hate when people do actually rant?
Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Or maybe the name is just misleading...
Or maybe y'all just gate-keeping ranting - which is... ya, okay - you do you, you preppy tosser.
Anyway, on that note:
I fucking hate web-development.
I fucking hate CSS.
CSS isn't a tool, it's a curse.
It's like a soft black magic system:
This specific behavior can sometimes be created by combining these specific elements, but will fall apart if you're a gemini - unless you wore a colorful hat at your fifth birthday party. If you didn't have a party, it'll produce some random behavior of the deer-god's choosing.56
When you almost cry before you sleep coz you hate your job and feel when you wake up your gonna lose another day of your life but your not getting any good offers...
How can someone like everyone at their workplace yet somehow hate what they do so much?
I need to get out of this fucking city. I need to leave this fucking useless pointless css with a sprinkle of php job.
I just feel do frustrated.3
I guess anybody as dumb as me using Windows 10 for work would hate the new stupid automatic updates. But it went to the highest level for me.
I was working on a huge ugly ass PHP script. My hands were frantically pressing keys as I witnessed Windows restarting itself without warning to install updates. Which failed. Then restarted two more times.
I ragequitted W10 as fast as light I swear.5
I hate C++ with a passion.
I've been developing my own internal cheats for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to learn memory reading, thread hooking and etc, and since it's one of my favorite games. But HOLY SHIT is it complex, I don't understand how any can fluently type C++ and be sane.
Does anyone here like C++? And if so, why in the hell do you?26
Worst part of having a stupid team lead is that you first have to explain the work twice and then start the implementation.. which makes the 15 minutes work as 40 minutes.2
(TL;DR at bottom)
Does anyone else feel that modern GUI's or webpages or anything thats 2-D and modernized, just seem to contain 10x less data that old interfaces.
Disclaimer: First time uploading picture, idk how it will go)
Let's say Google's Inbox, compared to the old Gmail interface... (In attached picture)
I am the only one annoyed by this?
I really like the look and everything and I love modern designs, but please please, keep the functionality there. I just feel like there is 10x less options to do when I see a system converted to a new modernized design. Even YouTube look ugly now, that I am convinced there are about 10 buttons less under each video.
(New <-> Old in attached picture)
Thinking objectively, all of the buttons are still there, but from other experiences, I just always get discouraged when I see a product with a minimalistic design, and am immediately turned away from it, expecting that I wont have any sort of ability to customize my settings.
If you say that fancier GUI's take too much work to make all he settings, the fucking don't make a modern GUI... I want something I can tailor to my needs... There is always a good line in between, just like "old" youtube's design...
Maybe thats why I hated LastPass with it's fancy GUI's and instead preferred KeePass for my passwords...
Anyone else hate modern GUI's since they usually lack features?3
CUDA is a fucking bitch when it comes to configure projects
Creating my first CUDA project it yelled at me it doesn't support my current gcc version, ended up with me yelling back "OY SHUTUP" and slapping some flag for it to use clang instead — basically what it advised but I didn't listen first. Fine now.
Working on this project on another fresh environment, and now it doesn't detect anything and dumbly tries to reload my CMake project with the LATEST installed gcc when I already told it to use version 8 TWICE. First by setting up a toolchain with compilers pointing to this specific version and second by passing the -DMAKE_C_COMPILER pointing to it again. Still this stubborn piece of shit tries with latest everytime.
The most applauded solution was to use update-alternatives to make gcc point to the version I want CUDA to use. Thank you genius, but what if I don't want to use a deprecated gcc version with normal Cxx projects ?
And cherry on the top of this bullshit, I'm fixing this dumb configuration issue (can't stress enough how much I hate this shit) to be able to fix an EVEN MORE annoying issue with CUDA being a bitch AGAIN and not letting me use std functions where I'm allowed to
Fuck CUDA. Fuck CMake. Fuck C. Fuck everything3
I'm not at all a webDev, but I like to use it occasionally because it's fun and I really like its syntax... but it's an absolute pile of shit.
If you put racing stripes and a spoiler on a golf cart, it's still a fucking golf cart.2
Dear Prestashop developers, f**k YOU!
I already hate this shitfuck what you call the best open source e-commerce solution, but your module validation technique sucks.
They use tons of useless rules, but the last addition was the last drop: they force you to use the old (and long) array declaration.
So now I have 500 new errors in this fucking module.
Why the fuck do you want me to force an old syntax?3
One of the things I like about Web Development is its WYSIWYG-ness.
Another thing that I love-hate about it is how 80% (more or less) of the time you don’t see anything happening on screen and then suddenly it all comes together. (This goes mainly for Frontend stuff.)
Aah! The joys and sorrows of Web Development.12
Once usaians stop calling themselves americans they can talk and complain about proper non-misleading identifiers 😘13
I'm going to hate all laptops. I tried to install linux and I have problem in instalation. Still have well working win, but im sick and tired with not working shit. It's funny, because few months ago i had win and linux xD
It's time to but New one? XD3
Dear reviewers, feedback givers, coworkers, clients and critics...
There is a subtle difference between constructive criticism and just spewing hate!
One offers advice & points in the direction of a better solution, while the other one makes me value you less, as a human being...
If your comment/review/feedback is:
“I don’t like it, I don’t know why, I just don’t” - please keep it to yourself because it makes us less likely to listen to you when you actually have something worthwhile to say...
Any and all creative professionals,
When debugging, why oh why do I forget that multiple browser consoles can be open and then get frustrated when refreshing the tab doesn't show my changes?!
You know why there is no sharp, non-blurry weirdass image of these Windows Update screens? Cus they actually don't take very long and in your shaking senseless windows hate you gotta pull up the camera asap to get a picture of it, after you missed it last time.3
Has it ever happened to you that you got stuck with a task or a project nobody wants. You know its doable but you hate working on it. Then you do it, even excell doing it and while you still hate it, it just sticks. Nothing has changed - nobody else wants it and you are the expert now. From then on you hate your job, but you're great at it.
What do you do.3
I fucking hate vendor prefixes. HATE.
Got some nice JS code? Well it's about to get ugly 'cause in our browser, the API needs some special name treatment or it feels offended.
Got some nice CSS?
You're welcome, it just grew 3x in size because "ugh, I ain't havin' the same flexbox as lousy Chrome over there! I'm special, I'm -ms-!"
Why isn't physics an optional class in my computer science degree?
I mean, why would they assume I will need more physics in my life? I had physics until my senior year in school, we're pretty much learning the same thing! The only purpose I see in this crappy class is to lower my average, I will never need to know how to measure forces, sound waves or magnetic fields.
I know some people will need some of this in the future but it's a very small portion I bet.
I've always hated physics and to make matters worse I need to go to exam (if we fail the class by tests we need to go to exam) and I've been studying ever since the semester is over when I could've been on vacation and studying stuff that really matters, like how to make gui's and playing more with Linux and C. But no, I have a shitty exam in the 13th (Friday) and because of it I only have 1.5 weeks until classes start.
I just hate physics so God damn much...6
Me always: never installing MacOS updates because something always breaks
Mac always: Updates available! Install now??
Me today: *installs MacOS updates*
Mac today: *refuses to boot*6
Fighting against a read-only-memory-write exception of a com object for two days. Feeling like Spartacus but without a result for now. Wanna only sit down and cry. 😢 by the way... Outdated machines with win7 and 2 gigs of ram 😨. This is my second I-hate-this-F*****g-world rant this month. I'm gonna really hate this world! 😬😈4
Just noticed this interestingly weird yet annoying thing Facebook does to force you to look at their advertisements !!
The first post in your news feed is something that is decided by their "ADVANCED ML+AI+... " algorithms.
The next post in your news feed is always an advertisement..usually tagged as "Sponsored".
After this, there is an insanely long delay in loading the subsequent post in your news feed, which in turn does not allow you to scroll further down and forces you to keep looking at the sponsored post in your news feed!
Noticed this on my Mac + FF 57.0.1
Makes me love devrant even more. Thanks for keeping it add free!
Do you hate proxy as much as I do ?
Just spent an hour debugging my proxy settings just to push my work on GitLab. The bug didn't come from my settings but the proxy itself... such a waste of time 😓
Is it weird that I'm doing Electrical and Electronic Engineering but I HATE it and love programming? I know I should find a balance between the two but I just can't seem to. The worst part is that the syllabus hasn't been updated for eons so we are learning about outdated technologies. Ooh, and you can't declare majors until like the final year, I think. I could quit but it would break my parents' hearts, and we are not rich enough to afford a self-sponsored CS course. The worst part is that I'm not even a good programmer, I'm trying so hard to balance the two that I end up not being good at any.5
I'm a linux fan (not fanboy) and I just discovered I can have a Microsoft Imagine account from my school and I don't fucking know if I want to use windows to learn Azure and .NET
I quite hate Microsoft for their privacy policies and their recent approach to windows
But it would be a shame not to learn that stuff
Fuck (to make it more ranty)5
I hate General Ed subjects so much.
They waste my time to no end because I hate them and I procrastinate to study them. Meanwhile, I'm not coding because it makes me guilty that I'm focusing on college studies.
Fuck. Less than six hours before I'm in work. Time for bed! Let's see what that bitch Hannah from HR has to say when I'm back! I've stepped up my social media game🤣2
Only half dev-related but AAAAARRRGGGGHH it sure as hell is a rant.
Doing a programming course, and I'm supposed to provide flowcharts of the code. I just spent over TWO FUCKING HOURS working on one in LibreOffice Writer, saving in between to make sure it didn't mess up. But of-FUCKING-course as soon as I do the final goddamn save for the chart, it just magically disappears. My hate for word editors burns with the intensity of all the fires of hell, and almost even rivals my hate for M$...2
I spent two hours trying to figure out why VBA was giving me the correct values when I used debug.print, but not when I got the returned from the function.
I MISSPENT THE GOOD DAMN FUNCTION IN THE RETURN AND VBA DOESN'T SHOW OR AS A BUG OR GOOD DAMN ANYTHING....
I hate this thing so much.
On the bright side the office thinks I'm some sort of magical tech-deity.5
I don't understand all the hate for JS.
Yeah I know it's in a very weird place and has a lot of weird problems that don't exist in any other language , but it's getting alot of better with age and so forth .
It has great tooling, huge ass amount of libraries etc etc.
Why the hate?2
rant == true
<rant>I want my stickers, but I'd rather rant about using email than actually use email. Cut me some slack, I'm a dev and I hate email. Email is horrible, it's barely changed since the 90's. I hate Slack and Skype as well, Discord is so much easier for my needs. I even set up some bots to tell me build statuses in their own channel.</rant>9
Working from home, the office is pretty unbearable in this heat.
Anyone else feel like conference calls in your underwear is a top work from home perk!5
Was at an Angular talk at the Microsoft Center in Munich. The talkers bashed MS way to much. Even for a Linux lover like me.
I wanted to her something about Angular and not how much you hate MS!!!!7
Who I hate:
People who put their tasks to ready for (integration) test without even once running it against real services and the actual database instead just the mocks of the unit tests.
=> I want to test business logic, not fix your internal server errors...
I hate surprises.
I join office after a short leave and the other guy is out with a completely new product I have no clue of. (surprise 1)
Next, he's on leave and now I'm asked to fix bugs.(surprise 2)
Just for the curious, I ended up successfully fixing them and adding 2 features.
Why is perl soo notorious? and why do people hate it. Like I'm a networking guy and sys admin and I like to write scripts and it's really handy. Though it annoys sometimes but it still helps.5
I learned a bit of python and started to enjoy programming. The syntax is short and beautiful but because I want to get into AR development I started C# now. The basics were ok but I am going fucking crazy looking at arrays. It's like the time I had to do stuff with Java again. I'd rather get tortured like Theon Greyjoy then writing this clunky garbage. But I really wanna get into AR 😖.
I'd appreciate if someone could give me reasons not to hate this syntax from the bottom of my 💓.
int[ ][ ] ohGodWhy = new int[ ] [ ]5
Just finished the night job at 5am. Looking forward to a good rest tomorrow! Not looking forward to correcting my sleeping pattern for Monday 😭1
I hate windows, the fucking constant updates and restarts as soon as I start working.
I have been wanting to make the change for a while now but I would like to ask the community first, which Linux distro should I start with? I understand most basic bash commands and am fine navigating the command line, but would love to hear people's opinions. Thanks!6
I'm at work. It's been slow recently because our clients don't know what they want.
I just realised there's an itsy bitsy spider on my desk. Or more precisely, on my workstation.
A 2mm-or-so little spider, making a web between my screen and my laptop.
I'll feel bad when I'll be leaving and having to break its web...6
Sometimes, I feel my school is a prison.
I'm sitting there, 8-10 hours per day, learnin' things I already know, and all I can do is sitting quiet to `don't disturb during the lesson`. I can't even use my laptop.
But, school also is nice in some ways, my principal allowed me to run a Hacktoberfest event in my school, make kinda radio in our school and make an app for our SmartTV (yep, we have a TV in school) to show weather, changes in lesson plans etc.
But still, I really feel this is the prison. One more year, and I'll finish this shit and go...to another school because `you need to graduate to do anything in your life`. Btw, do ya know any good ways how to become CTO or COO one day? Just asking. Greetings, I hate my school, have a nice day.10
Coursemates tried to convince me that putty was the programming language we were learning in our Intro to Programming class, not C. I thought they were joking, turns out they were dead serious.1
Have to wake up at 7am to be at the office at 9am. This is kind of the main hate about my job. Am I picky?8
One's attitude towards something really affects your relationship with others.
I hate school so everyone at school thinks I'm this weird, anti-social freak.
I love programming...everyone in my programmer circle of friends and acquaintances sees me as this cheerful and social person.
Java I hate you! I've been stuck on an authentication issue for weeks now and just figured out what was wrong. The probem was my variable wasn't STATIC so it was passing in an old auth header every time. Literally I've been skimming and modifying my code like crazy for like 2 weeks and this simple modifier changes everything! Java I hate you and can't wait to migrate my code base to kotlin!4
I hate BT.
Today, it started redirecting me to a page saying, basically, to activate their DNS server on the router for "BT Protect" and "Parental Controls" to work, despite the fact that my parents never turned it on. Their support lines appear to be staffed with Indians taught to answer very basic questions, and forwarded me to "tech experts" from BT, a service that apparently costs £8 a month, because "the issue is out of their scope".
How is this even legal?1
I'm FRICKIN' TIRED of all the 'devs forever alone' memes! I mean I have a girlfriend and reading rants here I've come across various people in relationships.....then why still all the jokes and hate? I know it can be tough dating a dev but still it's not impossible! Let's start a poll here.....how many of you claim to be 'not single'?6
So I quit my last job because they were only focusing on developing invoicing and inventory control systems. It was really boring same old thing every day!!
When I started my current job they were developing CMS and web solutions. But recently management is considering to develop invoicing and inventory control systems (which now I HATE ).
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE THERE'S MORE THAT!!!!
Hey folks, I need some tricks. I am currently a junior dev and struggle with starting side projects. I have some fancy ideas I'd love to work on. Problem is, I HATE UI design. I can't start working on an idea because I want them to look awesome. It is absolutely no problem to code the logic / backend, but the fucking design... I just hate it.
For example, I have some fancy ideas for an file manager that fits my needs. Haven't seen something yet like I imagine right now. I mainly code in C# (or Java) and I have to develop custom UI controls for it, align shitty controls, think about freaking color schemes,... I hate it. I simply hate it.
Do you also struggle with that? Any ideas how to overcome that?
Do you ever just can't figure out how to do something and just think to yourself "I fucking hate computers"
Cuz I do1
Well I'm back on this stupid project with this stupid Product Owner and I really hate this, it really demotivates me.
I was assigned to this project (data analytics) for like 6 months, working alone with this stupid PO that knows nothing about team management or project management.
The guy had a "methodology" where he established all task to be done daily and would not tell me what we have to do in the entire project but instead would tell me day by day all the tasks to be done in each day. This means that HE was the one making the time estimation which is plain wrong!.
Anyways, I talked to him and told him that I need to have a wide overview of the project in order to be able to make a good time estimation, and it kind of worked.
But the guy is a pain in the ass, calls me every 4 hours to "talk" about the project and texts me every hour to check "how are we doing?".
This project was killing me, I had no motivation to work on it, I hated every minute of it, I didn't like it at all to the point my boss (not him) talked to me and asked me what was wrong with me. I told him: This is not the project for me. He told me: Ok let's try to move you to another project.
After six months of agony, the project was stale (customer approval, paperwork, blah, blah) I was assigned to two other projects that I liked, more software architecture and development, not data analytics.
And last week my boss came back to me with "well, the project was approved so we need you back at it".
WHAT PART OF I'M NOT THE RIGHT GUY FOR THIS PROJECT DIDN'T YOU GET?
Now I'm again with this dude, calling me, texting me, sending me infinite emails, asking for minutely updates...
I really don't want to be working on this project.
New Xcode update causes my breakpoints to take up to 10 seconds to hit. Yet another reason why I think Xcode is trash.1
I spend days trying to be Superman, but my middle name is Alexander, Lex.
I hate the City where I live.4
Have any devs done bar work before..?
I've always enjoyed doing things outside of work, and I work 3-4 days a week in my main job to create time for this. It's great for my mental health, and means I can optimise the main job for pay/good benefits and fulfil my "other needs" (stimulation/challenge/enjoyment) in other places.
The main things for me are dev contracting on the side or acting/singing, to a lesser extent travel, a bit of activism and law study. Just because 🤷♂️
Especially re: my last rant with *that* email from HR on Friday, I'm tempted to be a bit more strict about only doing three days and picking up something else.
Although I know the pay is awful, I really want to try bar work on the side just to do something different.
Has anyone else done bar work before?9
When you ask for help, and they tell you you are on your own with this one bud. No wonder I hate my job some days, the fact that the project is due at 4, it's 2:30, and I still need help because I'm lost and am said one man army of IT. Nah, your on your own with this one. FML
I do some freelancing on the site, make a bit of cash and it's a bit different to the day job.
It can itself be pretty dull or boring, but at least I can drop the client when the project's over and try to find something interesting.
Anyways, I'm logged into a client Google account to do some domain admin on a GSuite account. Logged into Incognito so that it doesn't interrupt my usual session.
Get a bit distracted and sidetracked, end up searching for porn... in Incognito... in the client's session! 💀
Quickly clear search history and hope that does it!
Tell me someone else has done this too??4
Am i the only person who hates reactjs so much?
Jsx , so much nesting, unreadable code. U need to create lots of components and reinvent the wheel everytime u need to add a litle tiny feature. No global logic (controller)
Raaaaah what a mess...4
That moment when you have to install an antivirus software on your work os and suddenly the machine is slow as hell.
I just want to find out how single code that isn't changed can work but after that don't... :/ Hate that
$cash me outside, how 'bout that?
What do people use (I'm specifically interested in UK, but all answers welcome!) for P2P payments?
I like square cash, just so that I can say that. Monzo next, and the I guess direct bank transfer but only with a handful of people I really know. You wouldn't want to give it to stranger, and its a cumbersome process.4
Thanks monkey patching, now I remember why I hate Ruby so much.
Compare https://github.com/ruby/ruby/... with https://github.com/rightscale/...
I wonder how the fuck it even works. Also I'm amazed by countless hours of labour wasted digging through this pile of shit. (BTW thanks JetBrains for making it a bit less miserable)
Oh, and someone did monkeypatch Object#try! (which is also a monkeypatch by active_support) and then replaced all `#try` calls to `#try!`. WHY.JPG. Also how the fuck did it pass code review?!
Today I ended up sleeping after I had dinner, around 9 pm. Now I am still tired at 2 am, but fully awake. Hate when that happens orz
Nobody likes chatbots/conversational UI for anything other than chat, right?
I have a savings app with conversational UI. I press one of a number of options e.g. "Savings". There's this artificial delay after the network request has been made so that it looks like the app is typing back at you. Why???
You then get another limited set of options, or you can tap "Back". These options are supposedly as if you typed it back as a response.
I can get three "questions" (levels) deep, let's say to deposit cash, only for it to turn around and say that I've reached a daily/weekly limit? At each level there's this awful delay, and you already knew I wouldn't be able to perform the action regardless of my responses after my very first "message"!
Why is this good/popular? And the whole thing totally breaks if there's any loss of connectivity.
Stop it. Please.
