boubalo5878yHmm well after 2 years of exp I managed to secure a job with a 30k salary in London as a junior java dev.
So 22-20k for an dev with a year of exp does sound a little bit under what i would expect. Maybe try negotiating for 25k?
36-40k does sound like a lot though. I haven't many of those around aimed at grads
Try negotiating before you start or maybe accept it then push for a raise after a year while keeping your ports open for a better offer -
RichardH578yIs this a normal pay for a developer? Is there such a thing as a developer that makes 100K or more? This has always been my concern and why I went more into the support side.

Crost40748y@RichardH don't get me wrong. It's not all about money but with personal situations and 4 years spent in getting a first class computer science degree you would hope for a pay that will at least give you a chance of getting on the property ladder.
20k is not enough to get a mortgage anywhere but a shit hole and developers have a lot of expertise. It just doesn't seem correct. -
@craig939393 considering the amount of skills required, I'd say negotiate higher, the reason London pays more, however, is because it's expensive to live there, no?

RichardH578y@craig939393 I didn't take your rant that way but it sort of is about money. I have been an employee and a business owner. I've found out the hard way that you have to decide what your time is worth. An employer will try to pay you the least amount of possible and of course you'll try to get as much as you can. I know it's difficult when your first starting out and you may not have a lot of verifiable experience. I just thought developers made more. I know it's not all about money but the world revolves around money.

skanna3448yA junior php dev in London should not accept anything under 25k.
Otherwise means they don't really understand what you do. And you don't want this. Trust me.
But don't expect anything over 30k.
That's the truth.

!rant advice needed
I have an interview at a company this week who work in PHP, magento, angular js, swift and sometimes c#. Sounds quite good for a new grad with one year of experience in PHP and front end.
The problem is the salary is 20-22k. My friends are looking in London and the ones who ha e secured roles are 36k and 40k. They are roughly the same level of developers as me.
So what to do? Probably turn it down? I don't know what o should expect but I was hoping for around 30k. I need the money for personal reasons and 22k doesn't seem like a lot for a first class computer science graduate with a year and a half industry experience. I could be wrong?
