Made a backup of a WP website. Half of the files disappeard.

    Always go to cPanel/Plesk and compress everything then download, then take an SQL dump of the database with drop tables checked.

    Only truly safe way to backup WP.

    Edit: if you don't have a cPanel, do it in shell

    @biscuit duplicator has fucked up so many times for me in the past.

    Seriously, it takes the same amount of time to just take a dump of the whole site from the backend. You can even set a cron job to do it every night if you want.

    @SirusAmory always been good for me apart from sometimes changing all files to 666...but that could have been the server

    @biscuit aye. I've had it corrupt databases before, hence my wariness.

    I'm just very wary of automatic solutions like that, I prefer to do things manually so I know exactly what's happening at every stage.
