Name your stuff in English. Variables, functions, files. Everything.

You make the code completely unmaintainable for everybody that doesn't happen to speak your language otherwise.

I cringe every time I see someone in our company use German in his code. Just don't.

I remember the time someone build his own boolean using ja/nein as strings. Still used everywhere in our legacy "framework"

I used to see people code using special characters... I think I have gotten PTSD since then, hence why I try to use simple english even when programming for my fellow foreigners.

    Deutsch, Mutterficker! Sprechen Sie es?

The only way I support a language other than English is when accepting input, reading and/or writing to files.

But that's just the encoding settings, nothing more.

We found once a /tmp/roska directory on a server. 'roska' is the finnish word for 'junk' 😂

I teach code in French-speaking Belgian high school. I strongly enforce my student to do everything in English, excepting comments (only the first year).

But the teacher who'd give the "programming 101" course does it with French pseudocode.

    I'm dead inside.
