I have never used a Mac. I wonder how it feels like.

It's pretty good. I have been using one for 4 years now. As someone else said : " it just works". I find it like Linux , but without all the customization and configuration hassles.

I used MacOS two years and didn't like it. The thing is you're supposed to use it the way Apple intended you to use it. If you're fine with that, then OK. If you require it to support your own way of working, you might be disappointed. "it just works", but only if *you* work the way *it* wants.

Typical failure for me: having 5 pdf up, cmd+tab to my editor (right half screen), then cmd+tab to the one pdf I need (left half screen) to see both simultaneously... BAM, all 5 pdf pop up, atop my editor. Fail.

Default video player: double-click on the image does... Nothing. That's not the way Apple decided to do <whatever you wanted to do>. Instead of going "what could the user possibly try, and what do we do in that case?", they went "the user needs to be able to full-screen, and that's how we do it."

No native way to maximize to half screen with keyboard, years after even Vista did it.

(note, I haven't used MacOS for more than 3 years, maybe they got their shit together)

I've never used it either, really because of the concern highlighted by @Gauthier - I like it when my pc bends to my will (so to speak), and being able to work however I deem the most appropriate. I'm starting a new job where I can choose a Mac if I want (basically they said anything within reason), but think I'll go for a sweet 15" ultrabook from asus and slap Debian on it.

Just like a pc with a shitty os. Once you have linuxed it, you'll have a nice pc.

Dual booting Mac OS / Ubuntu for a while on a 2013 MBP Retina - the OS is very clean, everything works out of the box but sometimes you need to spend more time customizing different aspects of the OS than you would on Linux. I use both Mac OS and Linux on a regular basis and I do prefer Mac OS for "every day tasks". Although I would never even bother with gaming on any OS other than Windows out of pure lazyness.

If you want a clean and locked down experience that just works, get a mac. If you need to fiddle around with the OS, don't.
