Bad perf is fine, our users are old and used to slow software.
BUT FUCKING WHY ARE YOU PAYING MY FIRM TONS OF MONEY TO REWRITE IF ITS TO BE JUST AS SLOW?!?!?! -
Achievement of the day:
Reverted a merge from 3 weeks ago (about 30-40 commits back), 1000 ish LOC. Didnt break the build, app worked 100%.
Can't shake the feeling my desk will literally be on fire tomorrow tho. -
Be good at speaking! I've landed 3 dev jobs, without any formal education, merely because I'm good at talking. Bigly good!3

Oy, can any of you chaps hack a facebook account?
Asking for a friend.
Seriously. This waste of oxygen said if I wasnt good enough, I should find someone else to do it.
God I hate humans. I'm converting to hinduism so I can get reincarnated as something else. A cat maybe.19 -
Finished an MVP of my garage-opener-thingamajig!
Basically I decided I wanted to control my garage from my app. Retail solutions are expensive af. As a dev, the choice was easy!
RPI3
HC-SR04 sensor
DHT temperature sensor
5v Relay
Nativescript + Angular
Firebase
Result: i can open my garage anywhere, safely (sorta?) via firebase, and get push notifs when it gets opened (from hcsr04), which triggers the pi camera, while also getting live temp feeds (this one is kinda for the giggles and utterly pointless but NUMBERZ!)
Anyway - fun side project! First version of my app looks like this. Its very rough, and I have a couple more details I wanna display, but for a first time app I'm happy!10 -
Fuck you google for changing the filters in the chrome console. Before I could ignore warnings if they were fixed by another teammate in a diff branch. Now I have to go over 20 fucking lines of missing exports from a common lib file, which has 0 impact on my current work, because google decided to treat devs as retards.
If you dont know:
Before I could pick whichever outout I want (log, debug, warnings etc), and now I can only use "verbose", "info", "warnings" and "errors" 😡 -
Last I started my new job, and I got 2 new laptops (one from my job, amd a separate from the client, as I'll be there full time for at least a year). The work one was pricy af imo (P50, ~2500$ ex. VAT), then I got the client one... wtf is wrong with these people, the laptop cost fucking 6000$ (again, ex. VAT).
Now on the personal side I'm cheap as fuck, and the current laptop I use is one that was meant to be scrapped at my old job that I took home to fix. While it's fun getting those laptops, my brain cannot stop thinking "why the fuck do I need 64 gb ram, 2tb storage and 500gb NVME ssd to basically write text?"16 -
Was at a farewell party at work yesterday and those of us who are leaving got one each of these... 😂1

So I'm starting a new job in April, which will be my first 100% dev job. When I interviewed in January, they said I would work as an in house resource, and would most likely start off working with CMS systems etc to ease myself into this role, before transitioning to more advanced work. I was asked to come in for a meeting today, to look at a potential project.
Long story short, I'm being tasked with rewriting a frontend for their biggest customer to Angular, and this would most likely span over a year or so.
I can't decide if I'm excited or hilariously scared.2 -
I have this guy at work who does pranks constantly, mostly towards his supervisor. Some of his more memorable ones:
- Placed a ballon at the wall behind the door + stuck a needle to the door in his supervisors office
- Hid a small speaker playing "happy birthday" nonstop inside the roof of his office
- Placed a box full of golf balls in our site manager's mail shelf, carved a hole in the box and waited.
- Threw an orange (yes, actual orange) at his supervisor, and hit him in the throat. Entertaining for everyone but them.1 -
Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. This is weird to me - the job is for a small firm (20 employees), and my current is huge (~25-30k). Now I can work from home when I need it, and flexible hours (aka, get in whenever I feel like it). New job had in contract "No remote working" and "Work hours are 0800-1600".
Think I'm gonna turn em down.. Fuck being locked down like that, honestly.15 -
!rant
@dfox
Any chance the notifs can jump to the relevant item? When someone has commented on a rant I commented on, I want to start looking from that particular comment, not have to go through them all and wonder where the fuck i read last in that thread.
Thank you.2 -
I work as a developer where I mainly work on internal solutions. The worst fucking part about this, is how we're basically always the fallback for fucking everytging. Sales dept are constantly selling services without knowing if it's even possible, not checking if we need new hardware and shit like that.
Fucknuggets. -
Best part about being a dev is easily the fact than when something about a product bothers me, I can either build a better product or stuff it!
-
Building a page for a company on the side, they said payment after page is delivered. I said they'd get a finished build, they were okay with it. I also added a couple random errors that will break the site after a month... Am I a terrible person? :3
I will remove the errors after I get paid, of course. :p9 -
It's weird reading about everyone bitching about their PM / manager, and I'm here and have the best boss anyone can ask for. I work from home whenever I want, if I work extra I can always take that extra time off. If I work weekends I get 100% overtime pay. If I want to learn new tech for a project he tells me to go nuts.
What I'm really trying to say here is.. in all yo faces I guess. \o/13 -
Angular2 rant..
It's in rc they said, write prod ready apps they said, it will be fun they said.. Arjziglfns.
just started rewriting for rc5 and modules, multiple declarations everywhere fml.

When I was 11 or 12, and wrote my first webpage in php, designed with tables. Tables was the shit back then. none of that fancy flex box or bootstrap, and 50% of the internet was flash. T'was a good time to be alive.3
