Nexion12738yIt me! I feel this so hard. I'm a full stack mostly solo Dev and clients did this shit to me all the time. What's worse is I had to build off of crazily stupid written code by someone else. Most of my time was spent fixing their fuckups.
-
@Nexion Building on top of broken codebases are just terrible! I have my own stack that I'm reasonably used to, so that's so much better.
-
Mummie168yWorst part is when after all the arguing over why you're against building whatever shit they want, in the end they never use it. It's one thing to waste a engineers time, another thing to not even use the product
-
@Mummie Without proper market research and talking with the customers first, things like that tend to happen very frequently. That's why concepts like the lean methodology that startups use exist in the first place.
For my personal and startup projects, I strictly discuss the requirements and real wants and needs before I touched a single line of code. I hate to waste my time on unimportant things.
Also: @Mummie @unrealchrisp Welcome to devRant! -
woah.i can totally identify with this rant.My stupid client also wants an app like Uber in a week, both the backend, android and ios versions.
-
@bdhobare Oh my. This seems to happen with every single dev I know. Clients wanted a clone of popular apps IN EVERY SINGLE PLATFORM IN A WEEK. What were they smoking!?
Anyway, we should make a simple open source clone of Uber and Tinder for every platform. That way, devs around the world could get rid of their miserable life! 😅 (Perhaps it'll also be a better example than to-do apps used to demonstrate new frameworks?) -
kunashe19688y@phoomparin I feel ya pain. Its almost as if they think you are an extension of their hand - available to churn out code at will.
-
@phoomparin let's do it. i can commit the uber one i have built but i fear being sued by that asshat
-
@bdhobare Nice! Just say "Example Apps for learning software development", or something along that line, and never mention anyting about their company's branding. If a project is for educational purposes, there's no way they could sue us. Poor clients would never get past prototype stage anyway because it will fail, so no worries. Easy money for devs!

FUCK YOUR SCOPE CREEP
SOLO DEV AINT GIVING U 20 FEATURES IN ONE MOTHERFUCKING WEEK
Seriously, though. Being a solo full-stackq developer who can do both frontend (react, redux) and backend (feathers, node) does NOT mean you have twice the manpower to accomplish all of your shitty shit. Just because you have an idea does NOT mean I have to implement all of it. You don't even have a motherfucking specifications for me, yet you expect me to deliver shitloads of complete fucking feature in a fucking week. This is not a fucking joke. I am NOT your mother fucking tool. I need time to build my stack, design and perfect the interface. I don't want a shitty motherfucking product on my fucking portfolio.
