Can't remember the details, but I think it's something related to how the terminal instance signals stuff to the parent, i.e. even if it exists cleanly, it might screw up the signaling, hence VSCode would think something's wrong.

@electrineer that reminds of the GWX-dialog a few years back:
gwx.exe "do you want to install windows 10?"
"no" -> click red x
gwx.exe installs windows 10
