So my friend wants to learn software development. That's great and I've offered to help, but why when I ask how it's going does he say he's just been playing games? Why does he want to be a developer if he doesn't want to be a developer??

He wantz 2 haxx0r the things, obviously. But only because it makes him look cool.

I know a lot of those people (especially in university). They want to learn how to code or learn a new language if they already know one but never actually sit down and do something about it.

I think it's mostly missing motivation to get started and lot's of pure laziness.

I think you can't to anything to help him, he has to learn himself and if he doesn't actually start you can't help him with specific problems he might encounter.

Explain the reality and what he will have to do to become a developer.
