@thmnmlst Currently, code either gets posted as a plain text message or as a image. Both is eye-bleach.
I don't see the concern for devRant to become yet another question hub, yet, yet if people misused the feature for it, one could moderate differently. -
@k0pernikus you would have to implement another wall. Or filter because its not what most people would want to see.
And (I assume) most people use devRant from their phone. Is not a handy tool to post code and solve problems.
And even if thats all okay. Its better to be good at one thing. Then be okayish with two. Currently the app is focussed on ranting. For a good code help platform you need a lot of other functions.
But thats just my view. I could be wrong but I don't think so. -
@aronmik I agree that this platform should be only for ranting and not a support-group. I disagree that enabling markdown support causes a rushing in of coding questions; and if it did, one should enforce that people don't post questions differently.
-
@k0pernikus Mmm I get your point. But I'm afraid moderating becomes a full day job because we are all so friendly with each other.
Its easier to ask a question then search for the answer. And since we are nice I think a lot of people feel like its okay. I did yesterday as well ;) that was not much of a rant. Expect that I broke my head trying to find out what happend.
But back to my point the level of skill of the people around are from top to bottom in knowledge. So what for some people would feel like a really hard problem would be second nature to others.
But I agree that a friendly question platform would be nice. But since we are developers we should probably build one then and lure all the nice knowledgable friendly developers there with cookies. -
@aronmik we have downvotes for a reason. I'm very liberal with them. Any reposted meme or unwanted questions get downvotes. Easy
-
@iam13islucky yeah, I'm getting more freely with them as well.
But I think devRant should be for rants. Other people would maybe also not sure why you would upvote a question. Unless its asked to make a point. So they will get lost pretty soon making it harder for the poster to get an answer.
I think devRant should stick to his core. And if there is enough animo for a friendly ask question platform. Build a sister app if dFox is okay with that or start your own community with a bunch of smart friendly people.
Also if you allow questions where is the line and what should be the line? Because rants and questions are in essence just as far from each other as memes and rants.
So what makes rants okay en memes not. -
@aronmik I don't have a problem with memes so long as they relate to the profession and aren't reposted
-
@iam13islucky I kinda agree. I dislike memes that add nothing to the post. If the meme adds something its okay.
I don't get the term meme as well. Its just a picture with text on it. Maybe I'm getting old and grumpy. -
Devrant should get a q&a forum, buh only, if questions go to a special section: devRant is more of a joke-plattform, but much nicer than sO user...
-
(I'm lazy to read everything) How many code snippets have you seen?, I would but use it for normal rants.
