    That's not n Apple problem, that's your carrier being a dick problem.

    @C0D4 so why it always starts to work when I reset network settings?
  • 1
    @vane have you ever done a full install of iOS since you got the device or was it just bought and updated from telco company?

    Odds are the default settings added by the carrier have it disabled, you resetting that clears the carriers shitty settings out.

    @C0D4 I bought device in apple store without any carrier lock.

    It happens after every recent update. They just don’t fucking care I don’t use their brand new phone but stick with one that’s still officially supported and working.

    Is this android?

    @vane it's a carrier lock notice though.

    Have you ever seen a "carrier settings update" notification?

    This can be used to disable hotspot.

    Something like:

    Switch carrier and suddenly the problem disappears.

    You know I remember when I could use my android phone as a modem for WiFi connection to solve compatibility issues my laptop had over usb and fucking at&t installed an update that disabled it

    It’s my damn device !!!!

    @C0D4 the problem is always the same. Apple allows you to rename your device but it fucks up the network settings when you update software cause they reset your device name but hotspot settings remain named with your name and you have to hard reset.

    Same is with fucking not hearing in one ear pods. I had to rename to default fucking name and reset device to get back hearing to two headphones.

    Fucking idiots don’t know how to fucking do networking.

    @MadMadMadMrMim yeah tell me every fucking time I fix it that it’s my fault I have to do it cause I renamed my phone from default name.

    Why the fuck even give that option then ?
  • 6
    @vane Because "you're using it wrong"(tm). Just "think different"(tm), especially when it comes to pricing. The warning sticker with the rotten apple was clearly visible, after all.
  • 2
    @Fast-Nop yeah because who would like to rename iPhone - it’s just like renaming Jesus.

    Certainly I’m not their target user but well I have less problems with those then with android ones.
  • 4
    @vane If you want to do anything other than surfing at Starbucks' to show how much of a hipster you are, you're not Apple's target audience.
  • 4
    @Fast-Nop I use microsoft mouse with my macbook pro 😅
  • 1
    @vane think different lol
  • 1
    so to get this working this time I needed to reset all settings maybe this will also fix saving screen brightness that was not working, well I’m still gonna rename phone to custom name, I’ll name it “fuck-apple-iPhone”
  • 1
    @vane you should call customer support and tell them you’re having trouble with networking after naming your phone that lol
  • 2
    I blame Apple (and Android, and whoever else implements this crap.)

    There's zero technical reason to disable this apart from carrier greed, and there's zero reason for Apple to get in bed with the carriers other than greed. A few bucks get slipped under the table and sure, nudge nudge wink wink, of course we'll add a feature to disable hotspot for no sane reason.

    @ostream Well, they basically pay for that entitlement and for you to suck it up. (i.e. for "customer friendliness")

    @AlmondSauce yeah because like them radio transmitters disappear all the time as well lol
