I am recently hearing about some people in some companies emotionally scarring other people by talking about loyalty to a company whenever someone is leaving them. I never had to meet such geniuses. But i never became an important employee in a firm yet.. Is it common in tech ? Atleast in India !?

I can't speak for India, however here in the USA its not unheard of. I think with most companies this is non issue and you should have nothing to worry about, but there will always be bad apples that spoil the bunch I suppose.

Loyalty to a company? Ha! A fucking joke! One should always be loyal to one’s work. Company pays for your time, and in my view, money and loyalty don’t go hand in hand.

dude from germany here. i heard it endless times and it is still kind of present here.

at this point i want to repeat what my dad once said to me:
"employer and employees both own a business. but most employees only have one customer"

back then he wanted to push me towards starting a business (and I kind of did xD), but this sentence has changed my point of view in another way.
I as an employee sell my work. and if i can only have one customer I want it to be the best fit for me.

If the customer no longer fits it is time to look for another one.

We are mercs. Money and fulfilment is our loyalty.

Well, I’m not sure about MNCs here, like TCS, Wipro, etc….. but in small and mid size it happens, because until or unless you are really skilled about what you do and you have a badass talent in bargaining about salary increment…… than you need to switch job every ~2 years to get some real increment. If the company can keep a employee longer, then they will give a few percent increment every year and it’s a benefit for the corp, manager and HR,because if that guy leaves and the HR need to hire some one (not fresher) then they need to pay substantially more than his current salary to get him on board, and if he’s switching from any MNC or big name corps the “rate” goes even higher…….. every manager, HR, and majority of employees know that but as “loyalty “ is really sentimental thing in India so the practice goes on….. but SOHO and start-up are really good place to work… because usually they treat employees far better….

I gave in my notice at a company and the boss gave me a month's worth of stupid comments trying to make me feel worthless and unskilled, like I didn't deserve the job I had been offered

I knew that I absolutely deserved it otherwise I wouldn't have passed the interviews or been offered the position 😂 in the end he just looked like a dickhead to the rest of the company

Doesn't matter who it is, if someone's bettering themselves or looking to improve their future, it's their choice. I personally would be more likely to reconsider leaving if I'm shown the positives of being there, not the negatives

@purist don't give up your dream yet.

Once it happened something similar to me: 3 attempts, 3 rejections. On the forth attempt (which I wasn't pursuing, tbh), however, I got the job...

@purist no, SOHO - Small office or home office, usually means not more than total 15 employees

Loyalty to the place that exploits me? What nonsense is this?
