Did I miss the memo on the latest trend or something?
The past week every teams convo seems to be hitting me with the “hello?”, “are you there?”, “gone for coffee?”, “?”
I swear they’re copy pasted because I reply within moments of the first rude message 😂4 -
Manager: Speak with PersonA about ProjectX. Get back to me with feasibility and timescales.
Me: *speaks with PersonA about ProjectX*
Me: *does a few trials for more info*
Manager: Why did you not tell me you were looking into ProjectX with PersonA?
This is 2 days apart ...5 -
My confirmed results are in and it's a distinction in MSc Computer Science (Software Engineering)
It was a long & difficult 2 years (part time along side full time work) but I'm feeling very proud of myself at the moment 😃 -

Why is it that whenever I have a goal, everybody comes out of the woodwork to tell me I'm stupid and am not capable of achieving it, but whenever I do achieve something on my own they expect thanks and recognition for all the "support and guidance" they gave along the way?
Surely this can't be just me experiencing this?2 -
Email (not a ticket) comes in this morning: "You need to make X change to y thing, yesterday!!" with of course the obligatory million + 1 Cc's including unrelated directors across multiple sites.
Me as my helpful self: I expected this request, I'll get it sorted asap
Director 1: *calls*
Me: I'm working on it
Manager: *calls*
Me: I'm working on it
Submitter: *calls*
Me: ignore
Director 2: *calls*
Me: I'm working on it
..............
As a bonus rant, after implementing the change, manager calls and criticises my technical explanation to the submitter who I know is fully capable of understanding the way it was explained 😂
Happy Thursday!3 -
Boss: Can I pick your brains about something for 5 mins?
Me: Sure
-Call started-
(2hr 49min later...)
Boss: So you're still on track to finish that project by lunch today?
...
-Call ends-3 -
So I just got off of a teams call which I suffered the classic BSOD part way through, a colleague tells me that the entire time I was disconnected waiting for my laptop to restart, my team's account was broadcasting a super loud jackhammer style racket to everyone else in the call 🤦🏼♂️ and of course nobody knew how to mute me so they sat in 3 minutes of what can only be described as noise 😂😂
I'm not sure whether to feel embarrassed to have caused the issue or to be annoyed that the software does something so random while I'm not even in the call or with a powered on laptop 🙈4 -
So despite being able to do my entire job much more effectively from home, it's been demanded that I go in 2 days a week that "show my face".
Upon getting to the office there's no parking spaces, I go round the carpark again and woohoo there's a space!! Awesome..
I come back a few hours later to work the afternoon from home and find 2 cars double parked behind me..
Both owners seem to be off site currently.......... I guess this is my life now sitting in the car park waiting for people to move their cars 😂5 -
Everything's urgent until every thing is urgent ... Or in my company's case, everything is "super dupa mega deathly critical urgent" in an attempt to out-urgent the other requests 🤦🏼♂️
Quote taken from an actual email this week and made me chuckle 😂
These are usually the same people that will send a teams message or direct email rather than using the established ticket system so hey, double rant :v12 -
When your non-technical manager calls you 18 times in a row at 0730 on a Sunday, you know there's a problem.
When the first thing said when picking up in your free time (after being woken up on said Sunday morning) is "why did you not answer earlier", ... ...
Ps. He was using the Dev link, not the production link.
PPS. This was a little while back now but felt like sharing 😂2 -
Long time reader, first time poster 🙊
2020: I'll complete semesters 2, 3 & 4 out of 6 for my part time MSc computer science while maintaining my current development job.
I want to improve my front end skills and pick up a JavaScript framework as well as getting into Raspberry pi projects to get back in touch with my robotics background prior to development.
Good luck in your own goals everyone!1
