I feel many people suffer from this same problem.

Meanwhile why the fuck would this not work in a javascript class or am I getting my languages mixed up ?

    When you forget Javascript is not actually OOP and 'self' is, if anything referred to as window.self...

    This.tree would be the scope you are looking for.
