When the manager decides you're the one who should build a website and you're not the front-end developer at the company 🤬🖕

I was hired as an ios-dev and now I have to setup high scalable infrastructures, write backends and frontends...

This is one of the beauties of our profession! Tell them you need some time to look into frontend frameworks - it's paid education and you will be able to call yourself a full-stack developer afterwards. Your future pay will increase, you will have more opportunities, you become a better developer all-round..

What's not to like?

@devdiddydog Having to develop a frontend seems like a pretty big downside, but then that's just my opinion as a backend/infrastructure dev.

@EmberQuill Yep, it's not necessarily for everyone. But it's a good challenge, and frontend work is a lot more technically challenging / rewarding now than it used to be.

Kind of seems like a dev is a dev and if they make that decision they’re training a dev and need to accept a reasonable deadline involving the training of a dev with options of support in his environment

Are we really whining about having a job now?

People struggling for basic things like food due to production being down this year. Rumors of food shortages. Shit getting sketchy around the world. Governments locking people into their house for a 99.8% survivable flu. Despotism everywhere.

I dunno, cannot relate. I got hired to do front end. Now writing servers along with front end. I generally am just happy I have a good job. Is new stuff not fun? Maybe find a better way?

Ooh, you could really spite them and do the website in Wordpress!

@Demolishun dude I’m struggling more likely then anyone here again but I know the difference between the proper way of doing things and the way corporate pricks act

He’s worried they’ll push on him to meet the time standards of a senior in something he’s unfamiliar with

@devdiddydog that doesn't work when they say the deadline is "yesterday". I already knew enough about frontend dev to create simple website, but some things should be left to specialists; that ensures deadlines are met, or increases the chances of it happening.

I'm also not really interested in frontend development, as I spend most of my time doing backend and devops work.

I appreciate the optimism though! :)

@MrEvilDev Then your real issue is impossible deadlines set by an incompetent PM! And if frontend dev is not of interest as well I understand your frustration.
