    Optimize by writing a loop...

    @hjk101 infinite loop until stack overflow (death)

    Welcome to devRant. Work a job you love and it could be 7 days off 😀

    @Jumpshot44 that's the plan! Just have to get through a number of underwhelming companies before finding the right environment where you are passionate about the product, innovation is the driver and development is the core of the company.

    I think my problem is I've worked for companies that are in other industries but have dev departments, rather than at companies that are in the tech industry and their application/service is the core product.

    Got you beat:
    6 days on, 1 day off!

    and still no goddamn money.

    @Ashkin ouch, what's the deal?
  • 3
    @ALivingMemory a) indie game studio, that mistakenly employed a b) con artist as its CFO, leading to c) hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted and/or literally stolen, leading to d) layoffs and pay/hours getting slashed, forcing me to e) look for a new job.

    After my current project, my pay drops to $17/hr and my hours will be contractually limited to no more than 5h39m a week doing server maintenance only. Joy!

    (But the pay was crap before, too; I just enjoyed the work.)

    @Ashkin oh shit, what a nightmare! Well try and keep your head up and keep looking and I'm sure you'll get something soon to jump ship on.

    Sucks when you put yourself behind something new and risky like indie studios or startups and they don't work out but try not to let it knock you, it was out of your hands! If your enjoyed it and you aren't too restricted with outgoings or dependents then be strict with applications and carry on the way you were going and make sure any new job is right for you and would still be something you'd enjoy, but whatever happens good luck! 👍

    @ALivingMemory I'm currently the sole source of income for our family, so. I need something very soon and can't be picky ;;

    ...5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days off, 2 days off, 5 days off, 2 days off, 5 days off, 2 days off....

    @Ashkin right, well in that case, get those agencies/recruiters on the phone! Either that or push for some steer in the current company, if they want to keep going they must recognise that lots of people are going to be looking to leave after all that, maybe you can strike up some sort of deal to guarantee you'll stay on for a bit more money or a retention bonus or something.

    5 days on, 2 days homework, 5 days on, 2 days homework, 5 days on... [Continue for 6-10 more years]

    ...taking a vacation because we get to do that also...

    @Ashkin find a Jewish bone, immigrate to Israel and get a global wager of 27000 ILS *monthly* and work a 5 day work week :)

    @hjk101 that actually doesn't optime the process, look up in Google loop unwinding.
    TL;Dr it is better to have skip-n loops where the loop body takes care of of n elements instead of 1 at a time.

    @nocgod
    I said optimize code not performance. Pro tip: Leave those kind of performance optimisations up to the compiler/interpreter. It probably knows best.

    @hjk101 yeah... Not always...

    Sucks to be you. I'm going away for a week's skiing tomorrow (may also include binge drinking and eating my body weight in cheese)
