What the f**k is it that all companies want to use JIRA? It's really crap; looks awful, is slow and overly complicated. And most of the time used and configured wrongly.

Are there even any better options out there or is this the only thing we have to live with?

Atlassian has acquired Trello to control also the most popular alternative.

Is it that bad? I know it has some really hard to find configuration options but for the most part it does what I want it to do.

There are no good options really esp. if you are in a large enterprise. Some roll their own clones and that eventually turns out to be worse (like the poor bugzilla clone at my last company).

Jira is only as bad as your processes and management.
