Per company policy, needed to change my password again.

Usually I just increment a counter and reset to 1 after 9 but seems now they keep the last 10 passwords used...

OK, time to add an extra symbol

    10? Man I wish. Last I knew it was like 32 for my org.

    So dumb, all it does it forces people to follow worst practices like putting passwords on postits.

    What about a password manager such as keepass?

    @tonypolik not allowed

    Don't discriminate number 0!

    @donuts WTF?! Savimg passwords in an secure passwordmanager is the easiest way to enhance security. even stuff like an hasicorp vault is an shared passwirdmanager.

    @electrineer it's too far away... Even 9 was a stretch... 🦥

    @electrineer but its still missing an iteration.

    @stop we need to use that for apps.... So seems

    Apps > humans

    But yea this is the system login password so short of fingerprint, biometrics... Can't use a PM

    @donuts there are some mice with programable keys.

    And now due to different password retention lengths in the different envs which I found out as I went.... I have 4 different passwords that vary on either the number or the symbol....

    And I've had to write the diff at least down... On my phone.

    So this is like the most insecure password manager... At least it's password protected?

    Good news I guess is that in 3 or 6 months I should be able to merge them all into just 1...

    @donuts does anything prevent you from changing them before it's required

    And motivation
  • 1
    I meant so that you have the same one in all of them
  • 1
    @electrineer no, just that the whole process for doing all of them is very tedious...

    So need to get pissed enough to do it.

    I attempt to get anyone ridiculed (or fired) who says password managers are stupid, lower security, or are a fad.

    It doesn’t ever work, but I try anyway.
