I'm on vacation in france.
You'd think that beeing proficient in speaking english as a tourist office clerc is the number one skill to have.

That one i visited today spoke French only. 😆

I do remember it being so last time I was there, at least out side of paris (in paris it was rarely a big problem).

But that was almost 30 years ago ?

@Voxera @heyheni I'm not sure how much it's that they *can't*, and how much they *refuse*. I last went there a few years back on a business trip, and even people who could speak English *in the damn company I was visiting* often flatly refused to, or were just damn rude about it.

@AlmondSauce that I also remember.

If you started out trying in french, showing them how bad you are, they often was a lot more accommodating with trying in English.
