So.... AWS is totally fucked this morning. How are you guys doing?

I posted my own rant about it but to paraphrase, my day has been a really weird mix of boring and stressful. Boring because most of my work depends on AWS being up to actually deploy and test, so all my tickets are blocked. Stressful because I've also been responding to irate developers on other teams about the outage since they don't read incident emails (or don't get them, incident management and alerting are a mess where I work).

"Yes, AWS is down. No, it's not just us. Yes, that's why other services are down. Yes, other websites too. No, I can't do anything. Please go bother AWS."

Why I only hear AWS horror stories? Everyone's on AWS or gcp and azure are just good.

@h3rp1d3v because everyone uses AWS. When 80% of the internet is hosted on Amazon, the world knows when it goes down.

@h3rp1d3v bigger user base means bigger problems. Azure and GCP have had massive outages too, but the impact radius is smaller with their smaller user bases.

In fact, most of the time a major Google Cloud outage is only noticed when it affects YouTube.
