How do you guys hire people? I need to hire people for a big laravel project and I am not sure how to evaluate someone in just 30 min.

So please tell me about your hiring method.

I almost feel like this is a sneaky "please give me free interview advice for your company" 😂

Thirty minutes is not enough time to make a fair assessment. You need to spend at least that long on personality questions. If the candidate makes it through that, you need to schedule an hour 1:1 between the candidate and someone who's an expert in the tech you need the candidate to know.

Hiring is very expensive. That's what it takes to find good people. And even then there's no guarantee.

@bahua I am the one who knows the technology better so it’s my responsibility. But I have very bad experience with last few hiring that I did, that’s why I am asking here.

But as you said, You can’t know everything about someone in 1 hour. Need to trial and error method.

@sleek I wish I can. Our company does Indian government (defence) project, so we need to hire Indian developers.

Last I had to skip a great Bangladeshi developer because of that.

See some of their code and projects, ask them what it's about, what it does, and the reason why they chose to code it that way. As in, really go through the code nad have them explain it to me. Usually people take off in their own and tell you a lot of cool things.
Then we do a 1 month trial and if we both like working together we go for the full employment.
