Instead of splitting up engineers by team, they should start by splitting up those who prefer the lights on, and those who want them off.

Then we can all be happy.

The usual routine in the mornings is:

- get to my desk at 8:30am, flip on the light
- the people that come in at 4:30am so they can leave early all groan and tell me to turn it back off
- I get up to go to the bathroom, and one of them switches it back off

Rinse and repeat. I prefer lights on, because I actually don't enjoy eye strain.

Turning the lights on adds more artificial light in the room; how the fuck would it cause less eye strain?! I GET Eye strain from too much light in the room. Basic Science. And why would you need light? All computer displays are back-lit. Or are you playing on an old portable console? Like for real.
