So with the advent of Docker Desktop going premium we thought we'd buy a couple licenses... What did the HR team say?

"No, you're fine - we can just keep using it - how will they know?"

WHAT??!!! I will NOT be the one who gets brought into a multi-million dollar lawsuit because HR are a bunch of nitwits. I will fight this with everything I have so that when ouch time comes, i can say i didnt participate in the shady bullshit these people are recommending.

Lol, this sounds like an advert for Docker or something.

Why the fuck are you asking HR about legal issues?

Company credit cards belong to HR now?

Go to your manager or their manager and tell them to purchase the licenses.

@C0D4 this isn't uncommon in very small companies / startups where HR isn't just one role but is an umbrella for legal, financial and HR duties

Ask them "can you email me that answer?"
this is HRspeak for "you will be held liable for this shit if the shit hits the fan".

also - isn't docker desktop free for small companies?

Do you even need docker desktop?

    I echo @iiii .
Been handling quite well with WSL and docker for Linux. (Gotta have windows in the company machine)

@theKarlisK cloud services support those? If I can run podman containers in fargate and lambda, docker might have just lost my account.

Containers (and even dockerfiles) are an open standard now. Podman can run docker containers and vice versa.

@theKarlisK yeah, the compose and network stuff gets more complicated. Then if you want swarm... Good luck...

just let them give it to you in written form.

    then send it to docker.

    done.

@atheist swarm? Who needs swarm, that thing is dead, kubernetes killed it

@PAKA if you can give me a simple explanation of how to configure an overlay network in kubernetes, I'll agree with you.

Notify the Legal department, or the CTO, not HR
