I enjoy being an embedded software engineer that is allowed to use C for most projects and doesn't have to program JavaScript or PHP nor has to use dozens of foreign libraries.

I'm in similar situation, I write mostly Java and C code, so whenever I need to write some JavaScript my motivation to code disappears..

    No Rust yet? 😅

@djsumdog No. Why should i? Also, Rust does not run on most platforms and is not old enough yet, it is not even 7 years old.

I am an embedded software developer. I am currently using C++ and javascript... Feel my pain of JS on ARM.

@aviophile I'm sure rust will come in due time but I think it will still be over a decade untill rust is in any form of widespread industry use. It is for sure a good C++ replacement

@matt-jd But new C++ is slowly replacing old C++. So C++ is changing as well.

    Tiny Go YOLO

@matt-jd i don’t concern myself with wide spread acceptance. Our hardware will support it and I will be one of the early adopters. So, moar MANEY.

@matt-jd AFAIK Rust has only 1 compiler. There is also no Rust Compiler for PIC18, AVR nor MSP430.

Rust is nowhere near the position to replace C. Maybe in 10-20 years we can talk again, but till then it isn't a option.

I absolutely envy you! Hopefully I nail a similar position when I'm out of college.

@happygimp0 I don't think rust can replace C, it can replace C++ but its too much for when you only need C
