I just applied for one of those big big biiiiiiiig companies in robotics...

Something in my mind is telling me that I am actually losing it. Like, my mind. I must be losing my mind. 🤔

Oh well! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    The jitters are for real! I feel like I'm having a drug withdrawal but I haven't had any (like, ever) except for nicotine. 🤔

    Gaaaaaaah *pulls her hair out*

    Anxiety.

    Awww they had a cute automated bot response!

    Sad.

    (five stages of grief will continue after dinner)

    Going for the big leagues? ah well after the last episode you might as well swing big now!

    @C0D4 just swinging. Not big, just pure swing. Lol.

    Good luck! Will be thinking of you, hope you get it 👍

    @AlmondSauce fun fact, the aforementioned company is on your area code 😜
    Don't worry. I'm already prepping for failure. I highly doubt they'd be willing to sponsor me for a visa.

    See, this is the kind of shitshow I am. I woke up around 2 AM, keep thinking of what the fuck should I do with my life. (On the way to WC and back, ofc) Then woke up again at 4, having another fight with myself over the same exact issue. Woke up for real at 7, hiding for an hour under the covers from cold and the idea of a new day where I'm miserable. And after work, I am back again to square one, except now I did shoot my shots and have to wait in anxiety again.
    Fuuuuuuuuuuuck my anxiety. Why can't I calm the fuck down and live a normal boring life? What is wrong with me? 😭😭😭

    Good luck!
    Out of curiosity, what languages and tools are they using at the big companies for robotics?
    C++? Python? Assembly?
  • 1
    @Lensflare CPP and python, but I saw one ask for Prolog and Lisp. Often they ask for ROS as well. And the rest really depends on the company.

    @NoMad
    1. They say yes

    2. They turn you down. You ask for a referral to another company. Or ask if its alright to contact them with questions about the indistry/robotics seeing as you're working in the industry "and you may need someone down the line."
    Follow on by asking or discovering who the point man is for the company's connection to universities, activity organization, public expos, or whatever. She or he may have some use for you that HR may not immediately realize. If not, you can always ask them if it would be cool to contact them sometime for advice or questions seeing as you are working on your career and are interested in the field.

    Conversation openers, offering to solve potential problems down the line, and appearing helpful and open are three methods to open doors.

    Be like bob the builder if you're gonna do any preinterview self talk.

    "Can we fix it? Yes we can."

    "Can I do this? Yes I can."

    @Wisecrack not really. After the last phd rejection I emailed to ask what I could have done better. To this day, no response. And this is not the first. I have had multiple MIAs in asking for PhD supervision. They all respond at first, but after a few emails back and forth, there's radio silence. I guess I'm easy to ignore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    @NoMad I feel you, I follow a similar state of mind, except I follow the cool bored <=> anxious <=> depressed cycle, with each part helping the next ones to strive \o/

    Try this, its hard as fuck tho: just don't give a fuck about it. Let your non interested self attract the job by means of good vibes :P

    Hope you get the job!!

    Not big, just pure swing. Lol.

    @NoMad I am sincerely sorry to hear that. It sucks when you think something is going somewhere only for it to lead to radio silence after barely even getting started. Hell I'm guilty of this, I think many people are at one time or another. Hope you keep trying, and someone agrees to do phd supervision for you.

    if they’re big they probably have gigabytes of shitty code

    @AleCx04 the first interview didn't go too good imo. But they have asked to send me their coding test anyways. 😬
  • 1
    @NoMad How'd the coding test go? 😊
  • 1
    @AlmondSauce I finished it about two weeks ago and sent it back. No words from them since.
  • 1
    @NoMad Sorry to hear that, hope you hear something back soon.
