My boss, head of IT, doesn't see the benefits of using slack at our company. He thinks it's like instant messenger...

I tried it too to convince my boss.
But people hate change

@heyheni I don't think an alternative will help make up his mind lol Currently we use Google chat but not everyone on the company uses it. Also, for people that work remotely have options to use Google chat, Yahoo messenger, or a couple of out dated Messengers. We aren't requiring everyone to use a single chat client

@coffeeneia we also have Skype for business. Sucks big time.

About slack. Same story. They did not want to use slack and chose the outdated fork with bad customization called mattermost 😐

@yendenikhil why Skype for business sucks anytime? If you have that you know that you can use also more modern ms teams?

I changed different companies, i used skype, skype for business and slack...the only difference that i noticed in slack are the gif and the snippets, also till some time ago there were no calls, till few days ago there were no custom status... Furthermore is not native but based on electron that's heavy and resource intensive

@dontbeevil where should I start.
1. Crappy and not user friendly interface. No shortcut key binding possible.
2. Takes too much of bandwidth for audio or audio with screen share.
3. No persistent chat channels (I am aware of obscure feature which you can purchase to get persistence but almost no corporate has bought it) this is biggest issue as we have teams on different timezones and we have to send email to give them update and handover.
4. No bot support nor integration with git lab and any build tool.
5. No dark theme
6. Crappy emoji (this one is frivolous but sometimes you can express things better and quicker with proper emoji)
7. So many bugs. So fking many bugs (some prominent are freezing audio in case of you are starting screenshare for few seconds)

These are few top of my head.

Haven't tries ms team. Though now I am default mode skeptical about MS products. I wish my organization allows us choice between any I mean any Linux distro and Windows. Whoever is comfy with whichever should get that. But no. Easy answer from them is there are security issues to give you Linux distro. I understand that if you dont ever build security policies for Linux then definitely you will have security issues to provide the Linux distro. Though all servers are Linux where they do have security and it is preferred distro to deploy prod grade software.

At work we moved from slack to telegram. That was about 1 year ago. Never​ looked back
