Google is now hiring L4 engineers at only 2 years of experience and giving the same package? What's happening?

Seems like they have been hit with the great resignation wave as well.

A desparate attempt to hire and retain people only to later exploit them.

I've heard of a company that offers insane packages to lower level devs. The reason being that it makes it harder for you to move for a while because no one else will compensate you at that rate for a long time. Effectively golden handcuffs. Maybe that's what Google is trying to do here.
