Try to open a new PDF. Adobe says it must restart. I click OK, figuring it just needs to restart the reader itself.

Reboots entire computer instead... For a PDF reader update...

Since firefox had pdf.js i use firefox as an pdf reader on windows.

@dzil123 that's what I ended up getting. I've used it on personal machines forever. This was a work machine with Adobe pre-installed though.

As @tilde mentioned, Sumatra PDF is a lightweight PDF Reader, although it doesn't support advanced editing.

Gonna feel the hate but...
Edge is the best browser to view PDF files in (in my opinion).
That's also the only thing I use edge for ;)

For example chrome hangs if you scroll down to fast without the file fully loaded, edge doesn't.
Also I noticed on a same file that edge recognized the index and allowed me to click on it to go to that page and chrome did not.

Clear user error. 😂

Foxit reader is a good alternative
