Years later the supposed 'cancer' that is linux: a fully featured, and more and more polished FREE operating system running Microsoft development tools, a rich GUI which does away with the crappy windows 98 taskbar, multiple virtual desktops, and steam !

    What's crappy about the taskbar?

    That poor Linux installation....

    @AvatarOfKaine now I'm sure you're totally coo-coo 🤣
    No one sane would call Gnome 3 a sane DE

    @AvatarOfKaine now I know you're trolling. Gnome still has a taskbar.

    @sariel sorry start menu : P I meant start menu :P

    I recently tried again Gnome and I still don't like the feel of it. I went back to Cinnamon. "Crappy Windows 98 taskbar" for the win.

    @cafecortado it takes minimal time to get used to !

    @sariel wait, does it have a task bar? It only has a weird and useless status bar
  • 1
    @cafecortado cinnamon is great
  • 2
    @iiii cinnamon sucks
    It’s visually unimpressive and does not really take less effort to use

    @AvatarOfKaine eh? You're a weird alien

    Gnome is my fav DE atm. I like how polished it is.

    Sure, app menu looks tab-like. But it has nice UX. It's like quick launch. Win key + "search string" + enter.

    It takes some time to get used to switching between apps (because it kind of groups them), but it actually works great.

    @WildOrangutan ty ! once exposed to the redesign i selected my distro by what was using it by default !

    @WildOrangutan I mean even Debian defaults to it since Gnome 3 !

    @sariel heh I had some rather funny comments when. In this constantly hostile and hateful mood towards my surroundings. “Sahid the pederast” heh

    May not be a good idea to stray from Windows-like UI designs if that's the pool you want to snatch users from.

    Otherwise, go crazy.

    @hardCoding it doesn’t stray much however

    @iiii guess i am insane in the membrane. I love gnome3 . that's the beauty about Linux, you can choose your DE to whatever taste is yours.

    @NeatNerdPrime no it’s pretty awesome

    The thing is the windowing system at its core remains the same
    Same buttons
    Same way of managing virtual desktops
    Same framing etc
    But the management ui is so much cleaner and allows the use of arrow keys and search function while still allowing you to browse what’s installed
