!Rant - birthday gift 🎂

3 days ago was my birthday and my girlfriend still has to buy me a gift, but she doesn't know what to buy. Now the problem is that I don't know either.

I'd like to start programming something related to IoT and maybe learn a bit more of C/C++ (I guess they could be useful to know), so I'm asking you, what should I (she) buy? Arduino or Raspberry PI 3? Is there a kit of sensors I can buy? I accept any suggestion!

    @densedever I thought the Pi 3 might be better because it's a bit more powerful and I could also use it as home webserver :) But I'm really open to any idea. Do you know any kit I could use with it?

    Well, if you are complete beginner, I advise you get Arduino, as it is much easier to learn on. Once you get good grasp of it, then you'll probably know better how to continue.

    @stefano go for Pi 3. You can use it like Arduino too afaik, since it has GPIO pins. Worth the money.

    I worked with Arduino​, Wich is great, however rapsberry sounds better because of the greatest possibilities it offers over Arduino (although with Arduino I used to buy microprocessors on Wich I boot loaded programs through the Arduino and could make smaller embedded hardware running on a 1.5v battery (like the one for a wrist watch))

    @busuu I'm not a C++ programmer. I mainly use PHP and Java, that's why I have a gf 😂

    Do you guys know a kit of sensor I could maybe use on arduino and/or raspberry pi? It would be nice to create a device to get environmental data (temp, pressure, wind) and connect it to a server to store the data.

    @stefano go to www.sparkfun.com they have a weather shield which you can connect sensors too. For a more general option, look at the Arduino Inventor's Kit. www.adafruit.com is also an excellent resource. Both sites have Arduino and Raspberry Pi stuff.

    @stefano I used to buy items separately it's better from Ali Express for example, really cheap stuff
