If you somehow managed to install Mac OS on a raspberry Pi, does that make it an Apple Pi?
I'm sorry, I'll leave now...34 -
I asked my mom if I can buy myself a raspberry pi for my birthday.
No matter what I show or say to her, she won't stop telling me to bake my own raspberry pie. ;-;10 -
*sigh*
Ssh'd into raspberry pi:
$ sudo ip link set dev wlan0 down
*waits 5 minutes for response*
Oh.. Oh yeah..15 -
My family asked me what do I need in these holidays. "Dozen of Raspberry Pi", I replied.
They brought me 12 blueberry.6 -
My mom finally allowed me to get a raspberry pi! I'm really excited.
Now I have two packages to look forward to... A bunch of books and a raspberry pi!
Except she called it an apple pie. She said send me a link to the apple pie you wanted lol.42 -
My uni implemented Bluetooth beacon based attendance monitoring.
Raspberry pi + cloned beacons = 100% attendance.
Idiots 😂
(Edit for clarity: app on smartphone, Bluetooth beacon in each room)29 -
Bought a Raspberry pi with intentions of making a kickass hacking module. Ended up blinking the LED lights from GPIO pins. How's your life?11
-
see you in hell mac mini, the raspberry pi is taking your place connected to the tv.

Finish my Raspberry Pi Zero Cluster... complete with kubernetes, etc.
... I still don't know what I'm going to run on this. suggestions in the comments welcome.27 -
Testing a raspberry pi 4 as a computer driving our 4k dashboards' screen. Temperatures are constantly 80-90C.
Me: STEP ASIDE! MAKE WAY FOR A HOTFIX!
Rpi: aaahhh, 42C -- now we're talkin!8 -
It's done! Network printer and scanner, hosted by a Raspberry Pi Zero W. I used CUPS to host the printer, but the scanner was much more difficult. I installed apache2 on the Pi to host a HTML front-end that I wrote. Once you set up the scan, the front-end makes an AJAX call to a PHP script, which then calls my Python script that does the scanning and converting. Once that's done, it returns the file name via the AJAX call, then the front-end downloads the scanned PDF on the computer. I even managed to impress my girlfriend, who didn't really understand what I was doing until I showed her the end result 😄
I might try to pipe the output of the conversion straight back via AJAX, to be downloaded without a second call.9 -
Current project: turning my Raspberry Pi into a personal VPN server.
Thanks for making this feel necessary, US Government!11 -
Prepare to get your MIND BLOWN:
They have successfully got Windows 10 ARM to boot on a Raspberry Pi 3 with a hacked UEFI firmware!

Got some new toys today! A Raspberry Pi 3 and a Arduino starter pack. Any suggestions on what I should do with it?23
-
Some people assume that since I am techy that I have a really good laptop or setup.
Nope.
Just have my raspberry pi 3 as my main computer. Go Linux🔥🔥12 -
I asked for a raspberry PI not raspberry PIE! I don't even like raspberries! And it's not even Christmas yet and its gonna go bad! Who the hell gets a pie for Christmas?!1

This was typical for me:
Yesterday evening I was installing a webserver on my Raspberry Pi for experiments with WordPress. I began some days ago, but I had to stop because the downloads took at least to long.
So I started to logi in:
Username: Raspberry
Password: Pi
-> False Password
Wondering why it is not working a tried again. Same result. After some time I remembered that I changed my password.
Username: Raspberry
Password: Ih4G2tgY*
-> false password
*example
Tried again. Still false password. Then I remembered, that I used my another standard password.
Username: Raspberry
Password: U2gra94hY*
-> false password
After that I felt a mix of angry and helplessness. After some other failed attempts I gave up.
I formatted the SD-Card and installed Raspian again.I started my Pi
Username: Raspberry
Password: Pi
-> false password
My thought: WTF, why does this not work!!
This was the moment when I got the brainwave that the Username wasn't Raspberry, it's Pi.
Username: Pi
Password: Raspberry
-> access
Then I hated myself.9 -
Latest accomplishment. Programming my Raspberry Pi to record my apartment when I leave and stop when I get back.10

fuckpress.Pi
Yep, thata right. Fuck Wordpress Raspberry Pi. Thanks to my inability to interact with proton mail filtering I just made a script that checks for a new email and if it contains words "wordpress", "help", " hack", "build" and it is not from whitelisted contact, the email is moved to the Fuckpress folder and automatic reply is sent back that I AM NOT FUCKING DOING YOUR GAYPRESS FUCKING SHIT FOR YOUR 5$ CUNT.

Bought a raspberry pi and I was expecting to make a robot....
I finally can Light up a led using php...6 -
Quick burger restaurant (a Belgian burger restaurant much like McDonalds) using raspberry pi for their screen ... Well looks like it doesn't quiet work 😂17
-
I bought a raspberry pi a while back, and I have no idea what to do with it. I know nothing about electrical engineering or Python (as I believe that's the language you use to program the pi). Any ideas?27
-
When your raspberry pi is bombarded with /phpmyadmin URL attempts in all its forms and possible paths and versions 😅
Like seriously? Who in there right mind uses phpmyadmin AND has it accessible to the public.
- there's no databases on this Rpi but you keep looking.11 -
Some days back before, it was my birthday so I invited my friend who make apps and games with me and I said "lets eat raspberry pi" so he came to my house and said where is the pie. I pointed at the green board at the table. LOL2

Who also has some Raspberry Pi's?
& for what are you using yours? 🙂
I use my Raspberry Pi 3 for ownCloud & my Raspberry Pi 2 for PiHole.32 -

When you're new to Linux and start experenting with your Raspberry Pi and eventually run into a couple of problems and try to fix them, but that only creates more problems and it gets worse and worse, so you give up and just reinstall Raspbian.
Repeat process indefinitely.2 -
yo guys! im making a raspberry pi claw machine and thought it would be fun to log my progress as i go along, so i made a blog post explaining how to build one! if anyone wants to check it out, you can find it at http://www.alexdovzhanyn.com/blog/110

{spoilers, i guess...}
In season 1 episode 4 of Mr.Robot, Elliott plans on using a Raspberry Pi to heat up the storage facility in order to destroy the cassette tapes stored there. If he can get the temperature high enough, it would render those tapes useless. I was just wondering, can a hack like this take place in real life?11 -
So I've got this raspberry pi 3 and no inspiration what to use it for.. and it bugs me, just sitting there taunting me: -"you aren't very creative are you?" So.. ideas and suggestions?21
-
I really like retro games and there is this thing called retropie which turns your raspberry pi into an arcade machine. Since I have way too much time, I decided to built an arcade machine case out of wood with an old TV and analog sticks from Amazon. So yeah, I wired everything together and wanted to share it with you guys. I'm still searching for stickers to put on the top and on the joystick panel, but for now I really like the result. Tell me what you think!14

I pitched a homebuilt Raspberry Pi and AWS IoT automation solution for my weed guys grow op.
Now the fucker wants me to actually build it and to pay me in weed.8 -
That moment when you’re asked to shift the entire project from arduino to raspberry pi because your professor likes jazzed up crap.
Arduino so freaking reliable. A gem in a box.

!rant I'm beginning my nerd project of getting my IBM 5150 to the internet via my raspberry pi and a terminal emulator. Oh and the IBM has a 4gb (yes gigabytes) HDD in the form of a compact flash.
The pi is a model B. Even as an older pi, look at the difference in size versus performance!
The 5150 is 4.77 mhz
The Pi is 900mhz12 -
One of my colleagues in college asked me if I could check his raspberry pi because it behaved „strangely“.
I found out that it had been hijacked and somebody tried to mine bitcoins with it... that’s why you should change default credentials...25 -
Look what arrived today. I'm so excited to start tinkering. I might install Kali Linux on another micro SD card6

I got devRant working in python using only the standard libraries
But tkinter is an awful, hellish library that only supports gifs. But at least it runs native on raspberry pi10 -
Not a rant but I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Added some rgb mood lighting to my desk that's connected to a Raspberry Pi. Making a web interface next to change colors/set modes remotely :D3

So I set up push notifications from my Raspberry Pi to my Android phone, to know when exim sent a mail locally.
The easy part was the actual push notifications.
The more tedious part turned out to be looking for a way to send a notification for each mail.
After some research, Procmail seemed to be the only fitting tool to pass info to a command (in order to give the push notification some content so I know what's up)
In the middle of everything, I managed to fuck up exim system-wide, so mails didn't work, which was fucking great of course...
The magic receipt is this:
:0 c
| ${NOTIFY} -t "Pi mail: $SUBJECT"
Anyway, this is the result (using a test mail by mdadm + an actual degraded array I am still waiting on replacement drives for):2 -
This little Raspberry Pi is making me come up with tons more projects. Like hooking up a Pi to my motorcycle.3

When you're broke, don't have access to a 3d printer but still wanted to make a raspberry pi portable. Cardboard + power bank is the easiest way2
-
I added some boards to this fucking Beowolf of a fucking Raspberry Pi!
Pi with 4GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 8 USB ports, 2 Ethernet ports, and a sense hat.
Gonna put this between my modem and router and see what fun I can get up to.
Would like to build a web portal that tracks my family's data usage with the tcpdump to graph approach, and probably a little weather widget to go with it using the sense hat.9 -

Network Security at it's best at my school.
So firstly our school has only one wifi AP in the whole building and you can only access Internet from there or their PCs which have just like the AP restricted internet with mc afee Webgateway even though they didn't even restrict shuting down computers remotely with shutdown -i.
The next stupid thing is cmd is disabled but powershell isn't and you can execute cmd commands with batch files.
But back to internet access: the proxy with Mcafee is permanently added in these PCs and you don't havs admin rights to change them.
Although this can be bypassed by basically everone because everyone knows one or two teacher accounts, its still restricted right.
So I thought I could try to get around. My first first few tries failed until I found out that they apparently have a mac adress wthitelist for their lan.
Then I just copied a mac adress of one of their ARM terminals pc and set up a raspberry pi with a mac change at startup.
Finally I got an Ip with normal DHCP and internet but port 80 was blocked in contrast to others like 443. So I set up an tcp openvpn server on port 443 elsewhere on a server to mimic ssl traffic.
Then I set up my raspberry pi to change mac, connect to this vpn at startup and provide a wifi ap with an own ip address range and internet over vpn.
As a little extra feature I also added a script for it to act as Spotify connect speaker.
So basically I now have a raspberry pi which I can plugin into power and Ethernet and an aux cable of the always-on-speakers in every room.
My own portable 10mbit/s unrestricted AP with spotify connect speaker.
Last but not least I learnt very many things about networks, vpns and so on while exploiting my schools security as a 16 year old.8 -

I made internet radio player with raspberry pi. It uses IR remote controler and also play music from my collection. Pi is really usefull device. So happy.2 -
I have that desire (which is with me since I was kid) to build a drone (Quad-copter) and control it with my hand gestures.
So, I decided to start with it in my spare time, I am planning to buy a Raspberry PI and other materials to build the drone, and create a Gesture Recognizer app using OpenCV.
Wish me some luck !6 -
Coolest bug I ever found was the temperature sensor connected to a raspberry pi giving me -40 as a value.6

I know this really isn't the place for that, but I got a Raspberry Pi 4 about half a year ago, and it's still in my drawer, untouched. I had tons of ideas before, none since I got it, anybody has any idea for cool stuff I can do with it?15
-
I had to set up a Raspberry Pi just to display a webpage since it is inexpensive and I didn't have enough budget to get a case for it so I present my homemade case. Lol. It's zip tied to the box within another box.5

What is the best project you've done with a Raspberry Pi? Got my model 3 a month ago and was thinking of turning it into Jasper. However I'd like to consider more options before starting it.
Thanks in advance12 -
Soon I will be talking about a new communication protocol between Raspberry Pi and Arduino ... At the meeting ... IoT enthusiasts.
I am excited and slightly upset.7 -
What do y’all think about the new Raspberry pi with that 4GB of RAM. Other good improvements too, but that’s what I’m most excited about14

Raspberry Pi recently announced their first micro controller.
Will I buy two to four of them? Yes
Will I do anything with them the next 2 years? Probably not

Im seriously thinking about Watercooling my Raspberry Pi 3...
Why?
BRCAUSE THIS LIL SHIT RUNS SO FUCKING HOT THAT I CAN MAKE AN EGG ON IT! THATS WHY!
Its 80°C when under little load BUT GOES OVER FUCKING 90°C ON LOAD! AND THIS IS FUCKING DANGEROUS! FUCK!
so back to watercooling...
Its a Stupid idea, I know, but its literally THE ONLY FUCKING WAY TO COOL THIS BASTARD! And trust me I tried Novec (Yes the liquid that evaporates at 60°C...) and SHITS EXPENSIVE!12 -

I have a 16 year old son who is off-and-on showing interest in learning electronics. He wants to work for NASA someday. I’ve looked at dozens of Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits but I feel like he would benefit not so much from “mostly done for him” types of kits that are more like toys, but the kind that teach more fundamentals like resistors, capacitors, transistors, relays, etc. In other words, knowing first what the principles are behind the fancier kits. Do any of you have a recommendation of kits that start with the fundamentals, but that can still be inspiring and engaging?11

Frustration Rant!
Because old hardware means learning the hard way sometimes, I've had to purchase more goodies.
On my last update, I installed the rs232 shield which may have inadvertently been wired backwards for Tx/Rx from what im used to. I assume it is backwards to most db9 serial ports because most Arduino or other projects you would do with a pi have serial "in" connections like old routers and devices that would be "controlled" rather than the other way around. Anyway, according to a video on youtube showing a guy turning an old machine into an IRC client via raspberry pi, this shield may be swapped. That means that instead of interfacing with the old machine via a null modem crossover cable, I need a straight cable with male db9 on both ends. I unfortunately tried using the null modem crossover cable which was reversing the reversed pins all over again. I hope these next few days are more fruitful now that I've bought a straight cable and db9/25 adapter.
The good thing is that I managed to get the pi to recognize its new serial port. I also dusted off my DOS skills and my serial card in the 5150 seems to work.
I literally banged my head after nothing worked. Im hoping that the tx/ Rx is solved soon.
Oh and that AT to PS/2 adapter will allow me to use by IBM original Model M Keyboarf rather than the fun model F. -
So I got this shitty car of mine and a shitty radio, the radio stopped working, so what Im going to do is pop out the old radio and make a raspberry pi radio and media player for it.
Any suggestions or tips before I get started?3 -
Oh Lordy, time to yank out those old RPI's and throw vsCode on them!

2) Keep learning Python
3) Learn Docker
4) Finally use my Raspberry Pi -
to;dr: school, raspi, spoofing, public status screen, funny pictured.
So. At school we had these huge ass 2/3 TVs displaying some information such as which teacher is ill, which lessons won't take place and some school related news. Standard stuff.
They worked using a raspberry pi attached to the TV fetching a website over http every now and then.
Using nmap I discovered that these pi's were in the same network as the pupils devices: Sweeeet.
After trying some standard passwords at the ssh port and not succeeding I came up with something different: A spoofing attack.
I would relay all traffic from those pi's through my device, would replace all images with a trollface picture (I know I know) and flip all text upside down.
Chaos, annoyed faces and laughter.
It was beautiful. -
The Raspberry Pi is fun. As long as you not try to connect it via bluetooth to something and read/write serial-ish.15
-
So last week I got my second 3D printer. I have done a few prints with it and this weekend I wanted to connect it to an Octoprint instance on my Raspberry Pi. Yesterday everything went great, got some plugins installed, changed all settings within octopi, connected it to my network and this morning I thought let's connect it to my printer and try to print something with it. But everytime I executed my gcode it gave an error about the heated bed not being able to heat up. Even though I did see all communication between the printer and octopi, on both ends.
I've disassembled the build plate to see what could be causing the heating issue. Did not see anything. Strange...
I assembled the whole thing again and then turned on the printer and tried printing again. Hmm, now it does work, why? Me thinking a bit and then realizing that before I didn't hit the power switch on the printer and apparently the Pi gave enough power through USB to turn on the display and do basic logic like doing beeps on touches and changing variables on the screen. The worst thing is that octoprint gave me warnings about low voltage on the Pi even though I was using the official Raspberry Pi power adapter...2 -
It seems that every Pi day, I end up with a new Raspberry Pi that I got sometime before it. First, a 1, then a 2+3, now I have a Zero as well. Next year, I'll have a cluster of 3s. No reason, just want to mess with it.1
-
I have set up a raspberry pi and screwed it with some switches and buttons to the wall next to my bed, so I don't have pick the remote which lays on my shelf...
The pi handles the buttons and switches and sends infrared signals to TV, stereo and receiver ^^1 -
Set up my little raspberry pi and installed postgres. Now when it boots I can ping it for about half a minute then it crashes. So I'll install it locally I guess...3
-
Got a couple of Raspberry Pi (Pies?) lying around.
What’s the coolest thing you have used a Pi for?14 -
So I decided today was a good day to manually compile python 3.6 for my raspberry pi as it hasn't yet been added to any supported repo's. Site says: this will take approximately 30 minutes.
3 hours later: "starting unit testing"2 -
No suitable raspberry pi 64-bit distro.
Ok, I will build my own
Poor laptop, prepare for hours of gcc grind while we cross compile what we need 😛4 -
!rant seems that my raspberry pi serial idea is a little bit complex at the moment and may take a more serious turn later, but I have studied and found DOS based TCP/IP software that will allow me to use my 5150 with actual Ethernet. There are a few 8bit ISA Ethernet cards that will work in the 5150 and separate executables that will configure DHCP, DNS, and even allow me to use a terminal emulator and SSH to connect to *nix based computers over lan! I'll keep you all posted!6

Took the day and rebuilt my home network with no major issues along the way.
Migrated to a new NAS and gave a Raspberry Pi a new life as a PiHole + DHCP.
Rant: Why can't things always go this smoothly on my projects? 😎2 -
Came online today expecting few raspberry pi projects. Was hoping to get few ideas.
Disappointed? Donno -
Me and my friend > trying to attach a touchscreen display module to raspberry pi.
The module has two rows of female pins like
: : : : : : : :
The pi (model: zero w) has two rows of male pins soldered to it.
One row is fine but another row is @ 90° angle to first one.
** Who the hell bent these pins **
** A glimpse at jumper wires **
Ya let's do it,
After connection,
So many wires, totally messy & ugly
But alas it works

It is taking every fibre of my being to not buy a couple raspberry pi zeroW's and just mess around trying to build my own phone, software and all...
Also hard for me to not just buy any pi to just have sitting around 'incase' .-.14 -
I really want to build a raspberry pi cluster but I don't know what to do with it...
Has anyone of you ever built a raspi cluster?
What could I do with it?9 -
Had some problems with my Raspberry Pi (connected via SSH). Decided to restart it. Now it refuses connection. And I don't have physical access to it at the moment.
Fuck. This. Shit.2 -
Yay to Raspberry Pi for making it possible for disadvantaged kids to begin programming for less than we pay for a mid priced restaurant dinner.1
-
I really hope that the Raspberry Pi 4 is going to have more performance than the models of the "third gen". I would probably use it as a desktop computer when it's just for browsing and chatting, as opposed to my current PC which I'm sure draws a lot of power while idling or having only little to do.5
-
This is incredibly interesting. How the frikkin-frik did the WiFi and Bluetooth die on my Raspberry Pi 3. Yes, I realize they work in tandem but how does something like this just die after just sitting around and performing light duty tasks for just a few months.
Reinstalled Rasbpain 2 times, nothing. USB WiFi dingle works great.
Not really a rant but I wonder how shit like this happens.
The Pi is in a case away from my cats, in a temperature controlled environment and adorned with the official power adapter.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmm. -
Haven't started this project yet, but I've been considering ordering another Raspberry Pi and turning it into a voice assistant using Mycroft. I've been wanting to play around with IoT stuff for a while, and since I'm practically confined to my apartment for the foreseeable, there's no better time to get started.

I set up my Raspberry Pi 3 B+ to be a git server and Web server!! It’s not a meant for performance just my own personal enjoyment :)1
-
Spent my long weekend building a custom LAN image hosting thing on a Raspberry Pi because I was sick of emailing myself photos
I need to go outside more6 -
Made a node program that connects to a development board (like a raspberry pi) via rs232 and installs an image automatically.
-
Wow React js is pretty cool and easy.
Let's build a Raspberry Pi pins selector using radio buttons.
Well, nevermind.2 -
How much is your max up-time on raspberry pi?
Can it survive being on all the time? The board seems not made out of premium stuff3 -
Got my raspberry pi fory birthday!!
Also got a raspberry pie, gotta love my family.
Is there a program that detects (subscribes) to a git projecr and automatically downloads changes?
(Of course there is, but what is a good one)3 -
Finally got my wall up to my desk in whiteboard. 4' by 8' sheets cut to fit the whole wall with a 1/8" clearance at the top. Ignore the raspberry pi, I have to set it up this way because I have no USB network adapter or long enough Ethernet cable. There should have been a magic mirror where the box is but on that specific spot in the wall the studs are only 13 1/2" instead of 14" like they should be...3

Larking about with my Raspberry Pi again, wondering the near infinite possibilities that I can do with this.

Any affordable mini pc option for Linux? Need to run 24/7 as a local git server, n raspberry pi is too slow34

I recently updated all the stuffs on my Raspberry Pi 3.
Now nano* occasionally NULs out files I edit 🤔
*best CLI editor ever, change my mind5 -
And this is how it starts. I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 B+, quite some time ago. Plain board, just the board and a case. Why? Well, I have no idea. I always wanted one for some reason... and finally got one.
I got a good sd card for it, and flashed raspbian and... now what? What should I do with this?
*Looks up "Cool RPi projects"*
*Nah, I already have a NAS... No, wouldn't really use a media center... play games?*
*Well, let me just install sshd and come back to it later.*
Today, I run pi-hole, jekyll, node, gitd, a ton of other things that ends with d... I am even considering buying an extra one (maybe two).
Now I'm really afraid of what would happen if I give in to the urge of buying sensors and add-on boards.2 -
Installing a new Linux system from scratch on a Raspberry PI, including xorg and lxde with a keyboard with the letter X not working. It was.. interesting :)3

About to learn the world of Linux with my raspberry pi. Seems like I have ridden fail2ban into an un-removable nor fixable state. Fml 🙈3

>Moves files to the proper partitions on stick
>Kernel panic on boot before keyboard is enabled, kernel panic data taller than screen
>No R/W FS for kernel to dump to
fuck my life4 -
So we were building this thing with a raspberry pi, a few sensors and a few motors but for some reason we could not interface a sensor with the pi (this is supposed to be trivial) so we interfaced it with an Arduino and had connected a pin on the Arduino to the Raspberry pi to alert the pi when the sensor reads something!
Not something we were proud of but we had time constraints and couldn't figure out how to make it work. Also, the thing we were building was just for a one time use so we thought it would be okay -
Hm.. yeah, I will try something with my raspberry today.
*5 hours later*
I am still struggling with the wifi connection, ended up at a chinese website looking for a solution...2 -
Guest-user: finished my angular js 3 days course. Next have to start learning how to write API's using angular. Any heads-up?

To be honest the exact bug I don't remember. I do recall that it had something stupid I had been trying to fix to get nodejs working on a raspberry pi. I finally figured it out and managed to get a simple rest server going. After hours of trying to fix what might now seem insignificant, I was not only relieved that I got it working, but also thrilled that I kept at it and managed to fix it.

Ok so I am in this robotics course, we meet every 5 weeks from 8 to 15:30 to work on our projects. It's really nice because I can basically do what I want all day and don't have school! Fuck yeah... The only downside is that there are a lot of wannabe scientists who think they know everything about physics and computer science.
However the actualy reason I am writing this is to ask you for project ideas. I would like to do something with a raspberry pi but I can't come up with any ideas that I would like to do. Also making it should cost me less than 100€
(I already have a pi so I wouldn't have to pay for that).
So, any ideas? :)1 -
Can you tell about your experience using a different distro on a Raspberry Pi (3B) as the official Raspbian distro ?4

Setting up nextcloud on a raspberry pi taught me more than 1 semester of networks/system administration course in university. This is sad.3

Can't install Flutter in Raspberry Pi feels bad man.
I just want to do so much using this small machine. -
Heads up, fellow tech nerds: if you're an Amazon Prime member and have ever wanted a Raspberry Pi, there's a good deal on a starter kit, 20% off for Prime Day! Search for "CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3 Complete Starter Kit".
I've always wanted to build a project with a Pi, and now mine's coming Friday! Build project suggestions?6 -
Waiting for a new package to be installed on my raspberry pi takes a long time because of my poor internet connection :( But it is totally worth the long waiting time though!

There is no joy in life
So I finally managed to set up networking on my 3D printer's raspberry pi: now it can connect to my phone's hotspot or to my uni's wifi network, depending on which is available.
Then I set up OpenVPN, using a remote server as a middleman so I can connect to the printer remotely and start/stop/monitor prints from anywhere.
Everything works great, except for one thing: whenever the Pi connects to the uni's network first, OpenVPN fails to start and connect to my server, rendering the printer unavailable (unless I use an ethernet cable, but that's not a viable operation since I need to lift the printer, and it's heavy).
The only for it to work as intended is to either:
a) keep my hotspot active (which kinda defeats the point), or
b) let it connect to my hotspot first (so that OpenVPN can start properly) and then turn off the hotspot, allowing the printer to reconnect to the uni's wifi and reconnect to my vpn.
Why won't things just work the way they're supposed to? 😭10 -
Long time reader, first time poster 🙊
2020: I'll complete semesters 2, 3 & 4 out of 6 for my part time MSc computer science while maintaining my current development job.
I want to improve my front end skills and pick up a JavaScript framework as well as getting into Raspberry pi projects to get back in touch with my robotics background prior to development.
Good luck in your own goals everyone!1 -
My first raspberry pi (zero W) came today and forgot to order OTG cables.
Looks like this thing is going headless.3 -
Does anyone know a single-board computer like e.g. the raspberry pi that features a physical on-board audio input as well as an output?
I know that GPIO-header-boards like e.g. the hifiberry or WolframAudio (which seems somewhat deprecated by now) exist. I could probably also alternate to an USB-soundcard, but I'm curious whether someone might know a more compact solution.5 -
Blindly copy pasted and executed commands from tutorial.
Just because it was faster to reformat sd card in the worst case ( raspberry pi ) than figure out what each one did.3 -

Have you ever tried to get something working in node.js... and the version and uninstall and reinstall... hours and hours of dicking around with this god damn raspberry pi zero only to find that node jack shit does not support the "older" ARM 6 processor on the newest raspberry pi zero Wi-Fi units. And omg the amateurs out there with the copy-paste half-assed "help" clogging out the real info. God damn hobby ware.6

I don't know but, I want to buy a Raspberry Pi. I quite good at programming and want to learn a few hardware tricks.
Not expecting much from it but I guess I can program (play) with it.
What can I do with a raspberry pi that I can't do with my laptop already??9 -
Would it be possible to turn a raspberry pi 3 into a Hackintosh to run xcode for swift development?5

I recently got into nodejs .. set up a server...
I wanna know if is it worth it to buy a raspberry pi 3 to host my web server.. so i can show my projects to my friends or even clients.
If you have a raspberry pi.. what do you use it for? 🤔8 -
I have to deploy our software onto multiple raspberry pi so I started cloning an SD card with DD....devRant time I guess

What would it take to connect two Raspberry Pi's together via Ethernet ports? I want to make a low latency network connection between them, for Retropie Netplay.
I have a background in Python and some Linux, but I'm not well versed in raspi's.
I imagine that it would be limited to 100mb/s if I used raspberry pi zeros with adapters. And I would probably need an router since they aren't setup to be both hosts with the default setup?2 -
have a bash alias for easily connecting to raspberry pi

questions for those hard core lazy geeks, I'd like to try out raspberry pi. what's the most crazy use cases in you mind but yet no way to find time to do it? if I get rid of my laziness, I may do it, no promises😜17

Yeah, we *COULD* do AWS for the home (and homebrew as well) RPC program server... or I could get a Raspberry Pi 3B+ for the house. I mean... it'd be cheaper and easier to access.

So, I have a Raspberry Pi and I have no idea what to do with it. Any suggestions? I already have a SD Card with retropie.17 -
Had to take my Raspberry Pi 3 out of this case I printed, because the thing was getting way to hot for PLA plastic, and that was just running IDLE or VNC! A much cooler B+ and a Pi 2 reside in there now!5
-
This heat brings out the worst in me.
I seriously considered turning all my tech off, including my raspberry pi running pi hole.
Luckily I came back to my senses...
So I attached a little weather board to the raspberry pi to find out what temperatures I have inside.
27 C° in here ain´t that bad in comparison to outside... -
Got a note saying that the raspberry pi, a colleague sent to me, has arrived. I immediately went to the post but the person responsible for the packages just walked by me saw I was ending and just looked at me while sipping from his coffee and walking away. Without saying a darn thing. And I was on time 20 minutes before they are supposed to close 😒😑
-
Just ordered myself a raspberry pi 3 B+ and i was wondering if any one you have this already .. and if it works with a samsung charger 2A at 5V ?5

What are some good uses for the Raspberry Pi 3? I'm debating whether I should get one to tinker with.6

So, today, I wanted to try setting up a wireguard VPN server on my little raspberry pi at home. I... expected /some/ issues, but what I found dumbfounded me.
1 - I already had the wireguard package from the unstable branch of the main raspbian repo installed... Huh, okay.
2 - Setting up config was extremely easy... Wow, so the rumors were true. Wireguard really is almost dumb-simple.
3 - Failed to create a network interface? Oh, trouble, here it is! So lets see... modprobe wireguard... Nope. Don't have the module? What?
4 - Reconfigure package to rebuild the module - missing kernel headers? Huh... weird
This was the simple stuff... Then I went down the rabbit hole of the Raspberry Pi ecosystem:
1 - There is the Raspberry Pi Bootloader, that is apparently separate from the Kernel itself. And I didn't seem to have any of the standard linux-image-* installed... What? Weird, yet there I was, running a 4.19.42-v7+ kernel...
2 - No kernel and no headers... What... The... Fuck
3 - Okay, so... Lets just... try to install the latest kernel image then? One apt-get install... It downloaded the image, but during package configuration, it failed because... I didn't have... its headers? What? What for? And if it needs them (for whatever reason), why isn't the headers package as a dependency? Ugh, whatever...
4 - Another apt-get install and... Okay, building the initrd image aaaaand...
FAIL
WHAT. What is it this time!?
Oh... Ran... No more space on device? What? Is /boot independent? Of course it is, it has to be, its a bloody different filesystem
Okay, so, lets che-OH MY GOD WTF.
Its just bloody 45 MBs big! The entire /boot is just 45 MBs large. WHY. THE. FUCK.
This was a default raspbian install from I have no idea when. But... Why. Oh WHY would ANYONE pre-configure /boot to be this incredibly tiny!?
No wonder the new init ramdisk couldn't fit in there! Its already used up from 64%!
Thanks, Raspbian Devs, now I gotta reinstall the whole system because, yes, the /boot is, of course, sector 8192. Just far enough from 2048 that there are *some* sectors free - About 3 MBs.
So what did I try? Remove the partition and recreate it from the very beginning. Only... I never tried in in the past, and okay, kernel doesn't like having the partition where its image resides deleted on the fly, it will not give up FDs pointing there or something.
So now, I have a system I cannot reboot, or it will never boot back up :|
Thanks, Raspbian!
I need to get a cheap 1U somewhere or something T.T1 -
I've build a gaming station with a raspberry pi for a supermarket. I was running a quiz i also created with red blinking lights for false and green blinking lights right answers. Featured by cool 8-bit retro gaming sound and score printing to win a small prize if you answered everything correctly. It was so much fun building it and testing it in the office 😁

I recently bough a HifiBerry Pro DAC+ ADC for my raspberry pi.
That is when I remembered....
Linux is bad, but embedded Linux is worse.
I just wanted to connect via Bluetooth to a speaker and play sound through a microphone.
Unfortunately, after hours of configuring software, Bluetooth drivers and then testing python scripts with PyBluez, I still hate my life.
I guess the fancy new Linux GUIs (that compete with windows) really do not work correctly, because I swore the Bluetooth symbol was lit up in the top right.....
Kill me.3 -
Tried to install gitlab on my RPi3. Not gonna try this again. Didn't really get it running and lost quite some time installing, configuring and removing it.
Afterwards someone told me that I should have at least 3.5Gb of ram, if I want to selfhost it, for a goodish user experience. Might have been the reason why thay was so awful, but holy fuck, that's a lot of memory. I wonder if that's RoR's fault or simply because gitlab is a such huge software 🤔
I'll try to install gitgud tomorrow and see how that goes 🙏8 -
What's your experience turning a raspberry pi into a NAS server?
What did you use? And any resources you can share?15 -
My robotics mentor who had never said anything about computers asks some of our good programmers where he can buy 20 raspberry pi zeros.
The next day the PoisonTap exploit goes public.
Coincidence? -
So I have a raspberry pi running nextcloud and I want to add a second one to improve the availability.
I'm new to HA clusters. What stack would you recommend?17 -
My last raspberry pi just died, now I gotta pay a super inflated price for a new one in a month because they’re sold out everywhere13

I forgot the fucking package I use to take pictures on my damn raspberry pi 4 since raspistill doesn't work (at least i couldn't get it to) i installed a recommended alternative AND I FUCKING FORGOT WHAT IT IS a week later.
I should've been in bed an hour ago for fucking work tomorrow, instead i'm trying to find the damn damn support forums i was reading last week to find a solution I already found before FUCK
I need to actually work on using my damn knowledge documentation system i'm fucking working on so i don't forget shit like this FUCK4 -
!Rant - birthday gift 🎂
3 days ago was my birthday and my girlfriend still has to buy me a gift, but she doesn't know what to buy. Now the problem is that I don't know either.
I'd like to start programming something related to IoT and maybe learn a bit more of C/C++ (I guess they could be useful to know), so I'm asking you, what should I (she) buy? Arduino or Raspberry PI 3? Is there a kit of sensors I can buy? I accept any suggestion!
Thank you 🙂13 -
I set up this Internet of Things Raspberry PI station to monitor the PM's but they did not think it was funny.
-
I recently made my first open source project and would appreciate any feedback I can get for it.
It's a pretty small program to kind of permanently change the cpu governor of a raspberry pi (so it's kind of niche but I struggled a few times with it).

So I'm interested in building a Raspberry Pi stack at home to continue securing and adding my smart home capabilities, 👍
Have ideas for 2/3 but what else could I look to add?
1. Pi. Hole with cloudflared argo proxy for all DNS
2. Home Automation server
3. IPS / IDS like Bro or snort? Or firewall like pfsense?
4. Log server with Splunk agent from other pi's and router....
5. What else?
Ideas in the comments -
I am using a Raspberry Pi with CUPS and a USB to LPT adapter to enable one of my customers to still print on an old HP DesignJet.
HP dropped support for this printer with Windows 7. Of course the generic HP PS driver with Windows 10 works - but only via CUPS not directly from Windows. Windows claims that the printer is not compatible.
What's wrong with this world?1 -

Discontinuing my raspberry pi as a gitlab server (I have sorted a new one for myself) and I'm trying to figure out what to do next with it.
I've been toying with the idea of making a smart mirror since my room doesn't have a mirror anyway, does anyone have any other ideas? :)3 -
At last the weekend is here & here I am at home away from office stress, working on my small Raspberry Pi project.1
-
So today was going to be the Sunday when I finally connected my smart TV though my raspberry pi to access my network and have it connect to the internet.
My TV is 6 years old, so it doesn't have built in wireless, it does not recognize normal Wifi dongles so you have to buy a LG special one for ~120$ to get hat to work, so my previos solution: screw that, one chromecast + 1 osmc raspberry pi3 and I can do more than what the software build in the TV could do.
But my wife really wanted to be able to play netflix directly on the TV without using her phone so I thought:
If I connect my TV via LAN cable to my raspberry pi it should be able to forward traffic via the built in wireless on the raspberry and be able to have internet connection.
OK, its Sunday, my wife it out, I haven't done anything with iptables in the last 5+ years but I have google and should be able to figure it out eventually:) time to start this home improvement project!!!
OK, lets just check online if there is someone else who had similar idea as a place to start.
... quick google search:
Hmm, in your OSMC, go to teathering, "wifi to ethernet" and enable.
I try it and it works!
5 min and one short ethernet cable was all that were required.
It feels like I cheated and won the game without any effort, and what should I now do with the rest of the day? -
Is someone know if is it possible to build a web server on an old Android phone (instead to buy a small Raspberry Pi)? Is it a good idea?5

Q).How does one try to understand how or what a programme is in a third world country with no basis of proper infrastructure?
Apart from using raspberry pi which not only requires a person to help yiu understand it but cost a lot.......Something that Completes the circle , from bundling the the hardware with seamless software out of the box and for the fraction of the cost of a raspberry pi
[Open to all sorts of input.....from this thing has no practical use to lets do something]3 -
as long as I keep it small (?), and computing resources are enough, it is possible to run custom software in a Raspberry Pi Pico right? say, software I write from scratch (with Rust) specifically for it8

No internet! I have been without home WiFi for a week now and I can't download big files over my hotspot as it is expensive. I need to download a Raspbian image for my Raspberry Pi but it is ~1 gigabyte. Been needing to get my Raspberry Pi set up to turn it into a server for a site I am currently creating.6
