Can someone help me how to focus for 6 straight hours/day until the end of this month? Got 1 last exam left till i graduate with comp. science degree. I have to study databases but only theory. And i fucking hate reading text. I hate theory. I like solving problems analytically and theory is my weakness.

I read theory shit for a few mins and then distract myself with mobile games and tiktok for a few hours... I cant concentrate studying this shit...

How do i forcefully focus.

Can someone suggest me the best app that actually works to help me focus or something? Or some yt sound waves music?

    Start small.

Study for 30, break for 15. Do this for the first day or two.

Then 30/10 for two more days. 30/5 for two more days. 60/15 for a week. 60/10 the rest of your time.

You need breaks between heavy study in order for your brain to correctly consume, encode, and index the information.

Pomodoro method (I think I spelt it wrong)

    25 minutes of work
5 minute break (get up and walk away from your computer/textbook during the break)

Repeat this 4 times. On the 4th time through, extend the break to 15 minutes.

Lots of apps on app stores that will keep track of time for you. I personally like Tomato Timer on the iOS store.

    Good luck!

I can recommend super productivity. Includes things such as a pomodoro timer, but also many other things (my own experiences are exclusively as a student, though it's likely also really useful as a dev).

The only way easy is to start liking reading. Otherwise, you need to just force it.

Whatever you do, don't feel bad about procrastinating. It's your brains way to prepare for the thing you find difficult. Feeling bad about it only makes everything worse.

If you like staying up late, consider this. The next time you've procrastinated the whole day, instead of going to sleep, start reading. I think I got through partially because I did that. It was somehow easier to concentrate and even enjoyable at that time of day.

    Step 1: unironically, uninstall TikTok
Step 2: whatever these other people are saying

This advice was brought to you by the guy who crammed the day before each of 5 exams on 5 consecutive days and somehow passed them all.
Also the guy who listened to EEEAAAOOO on loop while writing his bachelor thesis.

    1. Print it out. Reading shit on screen is exhausting. On paper where you can take notes it's much easier.

    2. There's no way you can focus for 6 hours straight. That's a big flaw in your plan. You can study for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and then you start needing a break or else you'll find yourself reading the same line over and over again

    3. Sleep properly for 7-8 hours at night and even feel free to take a nap after studying. Sleep is where your brain moves memories from your active memory to your long term memory. Ironically, the more time you put into learning instead of sleeping, the less you're going to actually remember, there are serious studies supporting this

    4. Stop looking for Apps that solve your life problems, that's not how life nor apps work. Disconnect from your phone and use your head instead

@Hazarth at college we were forced to listen to theory classes for 1h 30min without breaks

@b2plane Yes, college is wrong, school system is all wrong. The government really likes to ignore the research on education and underpay all the educational institutions. Probably because they are greedy and stupid, but if you asked a conspiracy theorist, it's because they want *you* to be dumb and easy to control :^)

point is, do your own research... but not right now, you have other stuff to study xD

based on your app request and as a future comp-sci grad, please accept it's not possible to solve all problems by adding a technological layer

that's how we got to a point when somebody thought it would be for the best if we could connect fridges and toasters into botnets

A trick I use when I don't have motivation or to not get distracted while chillin is to only allow myself to work or rest. I don't have to work but I can't do anything else except sleep or rest. After a while you will feel bored, and working is easier than feeling bored.

@qwwerty you assume that wasn't the original intent of IOT.

Study groups where you decide what to read for the next day and then talk about it - sometimes responsibilities to others could motivate you to get it done.

You can try something like forest app or restricting part of your computer during work

Burn your phone. Uninstall all apps, you can always reinstall them later. Once they're gone, it will be harder to get distracted.
