Dear Zoom,

STOP FUCKING TAKING OVER THE DAMN WINDOW FOCUS WHEN SOMEBODY SHARES THEIR SCREEN

P.S.: Even your own chat is no exception. That's just plain stupid

    They don’t have a setting to change that?

    @AntiPattern maybe. I can't even access settings, as I'm not logged into Zoom. Maybe I will start using the browser app.

    It's even worse on Mac. It always goes full-screen when someone shares their screen, and then back to a normal window when they stop sharing. But even if you manually make it full-screen when someone isn't sharing, it'll still go back to a window after someone shares and stops. I can't rely on the window to stay in the same place.

    @EmberQuill quite possibly the same would happen on Linux as well, but I always go back to full-size window after somebody starts sharing, so I never noticed.

    Today I've even exited Zoom as I was typing in the Zoom chat and somebody started sharing. I don't know what I've pressed and how I did it, but Zoom reported a crash afterwards

    I don't understand how zoom is still being used.

    @jonas-w jokes on you, we have Google suite, but we still use Zoom.
  • 1
    @jonas-w altough, credit where credit is due, Zoom can handle organizational meetings with hundreds of participants, which probably wouldn't be possible with Google Meet.

    "Naaaaaaaaaaaaah, we'll make experience only worse for you, because we don't expect any downfall in usage. Can afford that, so it's fiiiiine!"

    @vintprox they even have a 2 year-old request https://devforum.zoom.us/t/...,
    which they only recently acknowledged.

    @Lasoloz "I would recommend opening a ticket with us and referencing feature request ZOOM-269176. You can open a ticket"

    Someone's not a people person, it seems 🤓

    It's like saying "we will sort your problem out while not solving your problem"

    Just go work there fix the bug and leave

    Stealing focus is the worst. Especially when I am playing full screen windowed games in multiple workspace(the one with multiple dedktops).

    @aviophile It was quite annoying like 2-3 years ago (I was still doing my MSc back then) when we tried to play Skribbl with my friends because the class was boring.

    So, I've found a way to solve the issue. When in a meeting, I just have to press video settings, and then I can access the general ones as well, without needing to log in.

    Then, there is an option which disables full screen for screen sharing. With that disabled, Zoom doesn't try take focus away (as far as I've seen)

    @Lasoloz I LOVE Skribbl! We play it at water cooler meetings at work. 😅
  • 1
    @AmyShackles so today I learned there is a meeting type called "water cooler meeting"

    Nice. We've also played it sometimes at the end of the retro in my previous team at my previous job. It was a nice way to finish it.

    @Lasoloz Gartic Phone (https://garticphone.com)’s another good one if you’re looking to mix it up. Results can be hilarious.

    @AmyShackles oh yeah, we've had that one as well, and it was awesome. I have a huge collection of gifs from Gartic Phone :D

    @Lasoloz Jajaja Hard same.

    So I'm not alone, this thing is really annoying ...
