ymas4718yI used to include a link to my SO profile in my job applications. I own my own software shop now. I would very much prefer seeing an SO profile to be honest. My philosophy is simple: how you acquired your programming knowledge is your business not mine. You just need to prove your ability and Stack is perfect for that.

Voxera113888yA good rank in SO is usually not bad.
Some more backward companies might frown on you spending time on any forum, afraid it will take time from your work.
But most companies will appreciate that you are helpful and well formulated answers can show that you know how to write understandable texts or show of problem solving ability.
Just don't show a profile that indicates you spend many hours a day there ;) Thats likely to be a warning bell.
Github projects can also be a merit for many good companies as it shows of your coding abilities. But same here, involvement with a hundred projects could indicate a conflict of interests.
Everything in moderation is usually best :) -
Avoid it if possible. SO profile can show more bad then good, especially since answers tend to be very arrogant.
Github profile is much better, as long as you did not work on a lot of projects in a short time period.
